Macbook pro running slow

Hi. I appreciate any help to figure out what is causing my macbook pro to run slow and how to resolve it.

We need a lot more information than that. What specific aspects of your computer experience are running slow? Startup, shutdown, browsing, application openings....

The EtreCheck developer has suggested that re-installing Yosemite is necessary to fix these.

Open System Preferences->Users & Groups->Login Items tab and use the minus "-" button to remove this, then add it back in, assuming you still need CrashPlan to open at login.

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.

For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

I wonder why you need Java, and how did you install it. Did it come from your previous OSX? Click the Java applet i SystemPreferences and uncheck the "enableJava" check, then restart.

I am not sure that Flip4Mac is 10.10 proof, you do not need it, I think, remove it.

Delete the two Adobe plugins in the InternetPlug-ins folder.

Also answer the questions MadMacs asked, especially read his remark about backups!

Now test the harddisk:

restart in the RestorePartition (CMD+R), choose Diskutility from the menubar, and do "VerifyDisk". If it does not end with OK, or takes long pauses, do the "RepairDisk, that should end with OK too.

The Yosemite installer will remove any Java installation, requiring it be installed. I don't believe it will migrate from a previous system, either.

It's OK, just that updates will no longer be provided free by Microsoft. I have not had any issues with it, though admittedly it doesn't get much use these days. VLC would be the best substitute today as a Microsoft media player.
