You need version 12.5 of iTunes, and it requires Windows 7 or later or Mac OS 10.9 or later.

iPhone 5s Windows 10 with everything up to date. Logging in to the phone before connecting to pc worked for me. Thanks!

I don't know WHY this would work, but after DAYS (actually nearly TWO MONTHS!) this strange, simple solution, worked!?! Why simply selecting a photo in the photos app would 'wake up' the connection boggles me as a programmer since the Commodore 64!

Change to use the 'MTP USB Device' driver instead of the 'Apple mobile device USB driver'. This USB driver is a standard window driver. This worked for me.

In device manager, double-click 'Apple mobile device USB driver' in the USB serial bus controllers section to bring up the properties.

On the drivers tab, click 'update driver'.

select 'browse my computer for driver software'

then select 'let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'

You should see the Apple driver PLUS the MTP driver

Select the MTP driver and click 'next' to install it.

Hopefully your Apple device will be recognised now.

To transfer photos from iphone to PC.

Open any photo viewing software even MSPaint.

Then you can see you iphone and copy the DCIM folder.

This Sh*t gets old after awhile. Fortunate this solve it for me.

Thanks davpar! After going around in circles with drivers and reinstalling this and that, your solution worked for me...Since this "unlock" had not been issue previously, I just immediately began looking for a complicated resolution...Sometimes its the simplest things!! Thanks again.

Devices and printer never loads. It just shows me a green bar at the top that never goes full. I only see a white screen.

Am I talking with someone?

Thank you that worked. Apparently iPhone USB connection is not compatible with USB 3.0. You have to connect to a USB 2.0. Even the newest computers come with at least one USB 2.0 connector.
