Why does my iPhone 6 not show up in my computer when it's plugged in with the USB cable?

Hello

I have an Iphone 6 for about one week now. I would like to view my photos and movies on my laptop (windows 7). But I can't view them because it doesn't show up as a portable device in my computer. When I plug it in I do hear the sound as if any USB would make.

Does anyone know what's going on? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a lot!

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1

Well, it happened again and after re-reading the solutions suggested (and tried last time) and trying them again, THIS TIME, I had to disconnect the phone, select a photo and reconnect the phone, and it worked! Took an hour to work through all this again. Beats me! What will it be next time? Standing on one foot and rubbing my stomach while patting my head?!?

Thank you so much for this suggestion, Johnny!

I had the same problem: iPhone not showing up in My Computer on Windows 10.

I went to Settings -> Devices -> USB and saw that the iPhone device wasn't fully loaded (there was a blue bar under the name when I clicked on it). At first I thought it was showing how much room was on the device, but I've been getting a bunch of notifications that my storage is almost full, and this bar was less than halfway, so I assumed it was the driver install progress. I clicked on "Disconnect" and immediately unplugged my phone, waited for the device to clear, and then plugged it back in. Sure enough, the progress bar filled to the top and then disappeared, and when I opened My Computer again, I had an iPhone icon.

Whew! Glad I can finally move my photos off and get more space! Thanks again!

For the THIRD time this has happened to me. This time I took some time to examine everything.

It appears Windows 7 needs BOTH the 'MTP USB Device' driver AND the 'Apple mobile device USB driver'. When I plugged the iPhone in this time when it asked me if i want to 'Trust this computer?" I accidentally hit 'NO' and it worked!

So I want back to Device Manager and the iPhone was under BOTH 'Portable Devices' as 'Apple iPhone' AND under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' as 'Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.

Don't know why it needs to be this way or why it changed but this seems to work...

It seems as though you might, but the only time that it appears in Computer is if there are photos in the Camera Roll. Otherwise, it will not appear. You do not have access to the file system, so there is no reason for it to be in Computer. If you do have photos in the camera roll, then you may need to go back to that support document that I linked, and take a look at information about the Apple Mobile Device Driver, and USB driver.

Worse case scenario is to remove iTunes and reinstall it. If you have to do that to recover drivers for Windows, then make sure you do it exactly as this support document outlines. Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

If you vary from this method, you can create more problems. Good luck.
