Why won't FCP Render?

I've used FCP for years...since it started. Never come across this problem. I'm editing on a Mac Pro Tower 2.8 GHz qd core intel xeonwith 6gb ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB

I have FCP X and I'm saving all my files to a 2TB external drive.

This has all worked just fine in the past. Now, some files will not render. Only files which I have pulled from my desktop (like a pumpkin picture and a small .mov file rendered. Anything I brought in and all of my transitions, will not render.

I cannot, obviously, share the project either.

I've rebooted, powered down...unplugged...held the power button for 10...replugged...the whole 9....

I'm stumped.

Any ideas oh Gods of Saving my Butt!!!

IIs the Share function not working for you? You should not have to render to Share.

Like Tom said, rendering is not required for export.

Try deleting preferences by starting the application while holding down command and option. This can often cure many sorts of misbehavior.

It's not clear from your post whether the rendering problem you describe is affecting any and all projects or just one. If you create a test library and test projectand can render and/or export, then I 'd suggest deleting all render files from the original project.

When I click Share, the window with the share options pops up, but I can click on any of those options as much as I want and the window never goes away, nor does the option I've chosen begin to ...share...
