I Need a Car Mount That WORKS!!

I've been through two car mounts...the iOttie that Apple.com sells, and another bought at BestBuy. Both encountered the same problem in my car...

I need the mount to stick to a plastic surface that is curved. My first failed attempt had a sticky suction cup...it was not sticky enough and the suction cup does not work on plastic.

I'm desperately trying to find a good solution...any recommendations?

Are you looking for something that would work with your existing phone case?

I bought a case from Rokform and it comes with a piece that you can mount in your car and the phone "locks" onto it as it fits into the case; it has 3M adhesive on the back so it sticks pretty well. If the curved surface has a flat-ish portion to it, perhaps that would work?

What kind of car do you have?

I have an '05 Nissan Xterra.

The main concern I have is the stability of the mount. I'm adhering it to a surface that's parallel to me...as if you were mounting it to a wall. The mounts I returned worked great on glass, but horribly on plastic. I'd love to see a suction cup that actually functions on a plastic surface.

I ordered an Exogear mount today. It had very good reviews and specifically mentions adhering to plastic and curved surfaces.

I have a TechMatte ProGrip windshield car mount that works really well. I had an issue with it sticking, not sure what was going on, and the company sent me a free replacement like immediately. I would highly recommend this one. Like, after I had a defective one, I am still ready to say that this is the best car mount that i've ever had. It has NEVER fallen off, nor dropped the phone. I would highly suggest checking it out, my friend!

HI Peter,

I would recommend the Tackform Ultra Grip.. One thing I want to point out is that most of the quality sticky suction cups will still stick to a slightly curved surface. The issue many people run into is that the actual dashboard material is porous and over a few hours or days the air slowly seeps through and you lose suction. In this case there really wouldn't be a good direct to dash suction cup solution for you.. The Tackform Ultra Grip comes with an additional 3M pad that you can use first but many people don't like putting any type of adhesive on your dash.

If you're looking for solid. The Ultra Grip locks on super tight to surfaces. It has a bigger suction cup than most mounts out there.

I would also recommend the iMagnet mount. I have a curved dashboard (only slightly curved) but this mount sticks to it like it's almost a permanent fixture! I was completely impressed with how strong and stable it is. Here is a link to the website and a 10% off code if you want it. Best mount I have had in a while. And FYI I have an iPhone 6+ that I am using it with.

I've been using the Tackform Ultra Grip for some time now and I recently tried there new Magnetic Mount. It works like a charm. I like it a little more than the iMagnet version because it has a slightly larger suction cup and it has rotating swing arm giving it a much wider range of motion. I also like that Tackform has a few different Magnet Mounts for vent, cd slot as well as an adhesive version that will work just about anywhere.

My best bet will be Eoeo Car Mount. At first I was so skeptical about the design. It's slick, simple and unique (not a cheap plastic). It's suction cup is so superb, it sticks to any surface on the dashboard. But what I like most is that it fits to all apple phones. I had an iphone 5, iphone 4 and it fits. Recently I visited Apple store and tried to fit it on iphone 6+. It works and I'm planning to buy an iphone 6+ soon! And by the way I bought it on Amazon.
