Bluetooth Magic Mouse lag / stutter .. , Apple Keyboard lag / stutter

Hello,

I recently installed fresh Yosemite OS X on my MacBook Pro, and I'm noticing a lag when I move the Magic Mouse or when I scroll up or down. With the Keyboard, sometimes I have to wait for half or a 1 second so the letters to be printed on the screen.

Did anyone faced the same issue ? I googled many forums and many people are facing the same issue even with upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite.

Appreciate your help!

Thanks,

Joe

Thank you for posting your solution. It has helped for me. I have a MacBook Retina, 12", Early 2016 withSierra 10.12.3 and had the same problem. My mouse lag and stuttering is resolved simply by removing and reinstalling the same batteries in my keyboard. Thank you again!

I've had this problem every now and then on my mouse. I've just replaced the batteries and the problem persisted. Taking a look at the bottom of the magic mouse, I noted how grimy it was. So I grabbed some cleaner and a tissue and cleaned the railings and everything else on the bottom of the mouse. I made sure there was nothing blocking the lens as well. Now, it's working pretty well!

I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM.

THIS IS ALSO IF YOUR WIRELESS KEYBOARD/MOUSE IS RANDOMLY DISCONNECTING (strangely the wifi was interfering with the devices, when I turned the router off the mouse/keyboard would reconnect - this is strange as my wireless channel had never interfered with them before).

If a apple representative could take note of this, I did a fresh OSX install, it seems the bluetooth file corrupts...

Hope this helps some people with the same issue.

I am still experiencing the same issues. Mighty Mouse becomes slow, lag/stutter/jittering, even stops for seconds sometimes.

I have the impression that this happens when the mac MacBook Pro (with 10.10.5 and all updates) has certain things "to do" in the background (opening a browser, starting an ressource-consuming application etc.

It did NOT HELP

  • Turning off handoff
  • Disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth an/or WiFi
  • Delete and re-install Mighty Mouse in Bluetooth Menu
  • Clearing the PRAM
  • Resetting the SMC
  • Cleaning the surface and the mouse, change distance/obstacles to MacBook
  • Use new Batteries

It might be of interest for you:

I installed the Magic Trackpad from Apple and this works perfectly fine. Even in parallell to the Mighty Mouse.

Hence, some of the above made advice might can be ruled out (distance, bluetooth installation in general, other software etc.). The critical link is obviously a direct one between mighty mouse and ???

Hope I was able to help to track down the problem a little ... Any more suggestions are much appreciated!

This was not a problem when I bought my early 2013 Mac Book Pro. It only became a problem when I upgraded to the next version of OSX, and it's been a problem ever since.

It also seemed to get much better when 10.10.4 was released, but now is complete garbage again in 10.10.5 (and I'm not sure that's what triggered it - that's just a guess). At this point I think apple wants it's customers to feel anguish and disdain when they use Apple products. It's a god **** mouse, and Apple can't make it work right.

If the horrible developers at Apple can't figure out how to work radio devices (and to be clear, it's NOT the hardware, the exact same equipment works fine under boot camp - WITH WINDOWS!! this is clearly Apple being total arse at coding for radios) then at least bring back a wired version of the mouse, so we don't have to deal with this **** for years on end.

******* terrible. <-- this is how using Apple products makes me feel. ******* terrible.

This is SO PAINFUL.

-> I've never had this problem before El Capitan.

-> The mouse and the keyboad lag and disconnections suggests a connectivity problem.

-> I've never had Handoff enabled, I did repairing and nothing helped.

Please find a fix... I'm giving Apple a week then I'll downgrade to Yosemite with my backup.

I don't know if this will help anybody, but after spending several hours today trying to find similarities with my own problem in this thread and trying out some of the possible solutions, i'm glad i finally found out the reason of my magic mouse strange behavior.

My exact problem was that my mouse changed randomly the speed. I moved my mouse and it slowed down and speeded up randomly, which made it almost imposible to work with my mac without flipping out.

My mac setup: Mac pro late 2013 desktop, El Capitan, old bluetooth magic mouse & keyboard, time capsule and a USB3 external WD Elements HD.

After switching WI-FI on/off, switching off handoff option, changing wi-fi channels, plunging off USB3 hard drive, disconnecting and reconnecting mouse and keyboard, pram reset... I finally realized that using just the mouse while keeping bluetooth keyboard disconnected, the strange mouse behavior disappeared. Reconnecting the keyboard by entering again the confirmation code, caused again strange mouse behavior. Don't ask my why, but only after i disconnected the keyboard, took off the batteries and reconnected everything again, the problem finally disappeared. A total loss of energy made the keyboard reconnect somehow different, the fact is that the there are no more interferences between both bluetooth peripherals and i can now go on with my life 🙂.

By the way, i had strange mouse behaviors in the past but always related to other peripherals causing interferences. I could have never imagined that mouse and keyboard could cause interferences each other especially without having made any hardware change. It started suddenly.

Hope this helps somebody.

I'm experiencing a somewhat similar issue and ready to pull my hair out. Not finding anyone else complaining about magic mouse battery life since 2012... self-troubleshooting seems to be difficult when nobody else can relate. Already went into the Apple store 2 days ago and actually found out the brand new mouse was bad out of the box. New mouse worked great for the entire evening, but the battery percentage went haywire the next morning and dropped over 10% within the first 2 hours. Now that I read your complaint... it made sense to me because that's actually happening to me as well. It seems to work well WITH the keyboard & mouse both connected together. When I shut the keyboard down and DON'T connect the keyboard and just surf the web with the mouse, the battery life plummets. How strange! Just did an IOS update to El Capitan. Hoping the update maybe fixed the issue hidden somewhere in the update. Battery life is holding tonight now, but I have been using both devices together. Taking the Macbook Pro, keyboard & mouse (along with the brand new rechargeable batteries I just purchased at the Apple store a few days ago)... all back in tonight to have them take a look. Alkaline batteries were responding badly as well, so it's not the batteries I don't believe... but the response was much worse with the rechargeables. Ugh! What a pain the rear...

Hi everyone. I have been having this same problem and I figured out a solution that worked for me instantly. I have a 2014 MBP that I primarily use with a two monitor setup and the MBP is docked with the lid closed. The monitors are hooked up with HDMI to Mini-Dispay Port dongles. I use this setup for my business and randomly last week this issue popped up and it was driving me nuts. So this morning I figured it out.

I use Logitech's bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo with their Unifying Receiver plugged in through USB. I normally keep the Unifying Receiver plugged in on the right side of the MPB next to the HDMI port but I needed to plug in a different USB cord last week and moved the receiver to the left side USB port next to the power port, Mini-Display Ports, and headphone jack.

I realized this morning that this was the only part of my setup that had changed and I moved the Unifying Receiver back to the right side USB port and the problem instantly disappeared. Not sure if the receiver being near the ports on the left side of the MBP was causing some kind of interference but this was an instant fix for me.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Christzsun! That solved my problem. I had the same problems with the Magic Mouse where it would lose connection and the mouse and system would lag to the point where the system wasn't usable. I had a Cable Matters USB ethernet adapter connected to the USB port and ended going down the rabbit hole of updating those drivers and buying a different adapter. Your suggestion of moving the USB cable from the left side to the right side USB port completely solved the issue. I have a 13-inch Macbook Air (mid 2013 manufacture date) where the working USB port is on the same side as the thunderbolt connector.

I had tried countless other suggestions (wireless, updating drivers, updating OS X, changing preferences, clicking my heels 3 times)... This was the only fix - other than not using the USB.

BTW, I did not have to reboot, pass go, or anything else. Simply moving the USB cable immediately fixed the problem.

I was experiencing this strange behavior with my Magic Mouse for some time now, and looking here and there on the Net showed many similar issues, with numerous software solutions, but, for me, none of them worked.

On my sluggish computer (MacBook Pro mid 2012) I had replaced my hard disk drive by a Fusion Drive disk, with the SSD at the place of the HDD, and a HDD drive in a HDD enclosure at the place of the optical drive. As far as I can remember, this is when the Magic Mouse problems started.

I noticed that this annoying behavior of my Magic Mouse occurred when there was intense HDD activity (i.e. Time Machine backups), as I could hear the HDD fiddling around, in the silent place where I live, and at the same time, the Magic Mouse going crazy (and even with Bluetooth disconnections).

Looking inside my MacBook, I then noticed how close from each other were the HDD in its enclosure, and the AirPort/Bluetooth board. Could this be the problem?

I then unmounted my Fusion Drive, removed the SSD and the HDD, positioned a new HDD in its original place, leaving the optical drive’s place empty. Time Machine backups are of course very useful…

Now, my Magic Mouse is normally responsive, and my MacBook Pro is sluggish again.

Planning to replace this HDD with a unique large SSD.
