iOS 8 Keyboard Shortcuts won't delete.

So I've had my iPhone 6 now for a few weeks and It's running the latest iOS (iOS 8.1).

I have about 40 Shortcuts in the keyboard and duplicates, however when I delete any of these shortcuts, they reappear, I've turned off iCloud on my iPad, and Mac but yet they still appear and its getting very frustrating. Please help me. 😟

evilapa,

Actually I didn't lose anything at all. Once I reinstalled as "new", upon completion I logged into iCloud with my credentials as iBarret instructed all other info was restored, contacts, notes, and even ALL of my photos. I lost absolutely nothing that was important to me, which really surprised me because I was willing to start from scratch but as it turned out I didn't have to at all. I guess you can say I took a leap of faith and it actually worked out.

I had the same problem and finally found a solution that worked, and it doesn't involve deleting everything and starting over.

1. Rename all the shortcuts you want to get rid of. (I put three dollar signs in front of each one so they'd be easy to pick out in the list.)

2. Wait about an hour to be sure the change has synced to iCloud, then do the same on any other iOS devices or Macs you have just in case those also have ones that need deleting that weren't caught in Step 1.

3. Now wait a week to be absolutely certain the changes have propagated through all of Apple's servers and what have you.

4. After the week has passed, delete all those renamed shortcuts. Again, wait an hour before you do the same with your remaining Apple devices.

That's it! Those shortcuts should be gone for good.

I just ordered my Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm pretty confident that will fix it. 😎

This problem has plagued me too long, and enough is enough without a true & proper fix. My issue actually surfaced when I performed an icloud restore when I bought my iPhone 6 plus - and these were shortcuts that were deleted in iOS 7! I've had so many problems due to iOS 8, I'd need to write a book to explain them.

I honestly think Apple has been dropping the ball in so many other areas as well, I just can't take it any more. I can only think that they have most of US & China hoodwinked that their products are really great, when in reality under the hood crap like this is taking place. But hey, that's marketing for you, which apparently all that Apple is relying on nowadays. Its sad too, I've loved Apple for years, but bye bye...

This is a disaster. I've tried everything. Followed iBarrett's procedure precisely and set up my iPhone as NEW. Manually installing all my apps and data. NO recovery from backups. In addition to that I deleted everything in relation to 'dictionaries' by means of Terminal on iCloud drive and gardening through my iMac's library.

And guess what? The shortcuts are still there! On the fresh, newly set up iPhone. It's unbelievable!

Not to mention I've spend hours on the phone with Apple's representatives who finally confirmed it a bug and literally said that it's where their support ends. Leaving you waiting for an update.

There is of course one and only one last resort: Set up a new Apple ID and loose all my purchases. Apple representatives even declined to sent me an iTunes voucher to cover for the necessary redundant purchases to work around their bug. This is more than frustrating. It's impossible to expect less from customer service.

What a company: Giving nothing back to the community on global Tax level. Giving nothing back on the individual level.

Can someone explain:

My current backup is to iCloud only. Do I need to turn off iCloud backup, then force a backup to iTunes. Then edit the backup. Then restore from iTunes. Then turn on iCloud?

I'm confused about the relationship of the iCloud to iTunes backups and what should be backed up and restored from where/to where.

The way I see it now is:

1. Turn off sync to iCloud

2. Sync/backup to iTunes

3. Delete the keyboard/coredata folder

4. Restore from backup in iTunes, using the local iTunes (not iCloud) backup.

5. Re-check the box to sync to iCloud?

When do I delete the zombie shortcuts? After I do steps 1-5 above or before step 2?
