cannot add icloud public calendar to outlook

I work and live in a mixed Mac/PC environment. The PCs are Windows 7 professional with Outlook 2010. The Macs are Yosemite. I would like to be able to subscribe to a public icloud calendar on one of the PCs. We could do this a week ago.

Now when we add the calendar it crashes Outlook. Furthermore, I noticed that the calendar address no longer ends in .ics which Outlook requires.

The new icloud control panel crashed Outlook as well.

I tried joining the private calendar and it does not show up in Outlook either.

Is the new icloud interface not ready for prime time?

Any solutions or work arounds?

Thank you in advance for any help,

Debbie

I have this problem too,

windows7 with outlook10 on 3 different PCs

suddenly Outlook crash on the subscription of public iCloud calendar

I also deleted the subscription, but outlook crashes as soon as I try to re-subscribe the calendar by clicking on the link received by email from iCloud

hopefully to be resolved quickly

I also am having this problem, and it's affecting 2010 through 2013 versions of Microsoft Outlook. This effectively makes outlook unusable as it continues to crash on opening.

Apple, please fix Calendars. Also, formatting for Event and Location in the new Yosemite calendar is completely unpredictable. You had a great calendar with Mavericks. Please make it stable.

I have this same problem with Outlook 2013 on Windows 7. I've been researching and posting on Microsoft forums and now have confirmation that this is a Microsoft problem. Here is the post from Microsoft: "As a short term solution if you go into File, Account Settings, Account Settings, and click on Internet Calendars and remove the calendar it should cause the crash to stop. The Outlook Team is working on getting a fix for the issue. As soon as they confirm what updates the fix will go in I will come back and update the forum thread. We are also working on a KB article and I will post that here is well once it is published."

Hi all,

I did some tests with "wget" to get an icloud calendar as a file. With help of "wget" I found out that the calendar from icloud comes with gzip compression. Seems to be a new feature? Unfortunately Outlook seems to be unable to handle with gzip compression. I did the following test:

  1. Get the icloud calendar with help of "wget"
  2. Uncompress the file with "gzip"
  3. rename the file to an extension with ".ics"
  4. Open it with outlook

Outlook is opening the saved calendar file. That works. But no idea how to get it running inside Outlook via Web-Calendar.

Boringly but to add to the pile - exactly the same and (finally) finding this thread has restored my sanity if not saved my patience..

My system (laptop running W8 64bit and Office 13) was running flawlessly. Then one day, suddenly, around the middle of November as it turns out, Outlook started crashing without any obvious reason. Nothing had changed with our server side, or the machine, no new software nothing.

I switched back to my old laptop in desperation, W7 64bit and Office 13. Seemed like it ran slightly better for a short while but then it too started crashing.

The newer laptop was completely rebuilt by our IT team and came back running smoothly and not crashing.

This evening I noticed my personal (internet subscription) calendar from my wife's iCloud account was not showing. So I added it. Immediate crash. And thereafter the moment Outlook 2013 opened - crash. Only by very quickly nipping into the account settings and removing the calendar subscription was I able to stop it.

100% the issue you guys are all having. Seems unlikely to me it's Microsoft since nothing changed in my MS environment but around that time we had the latest IOS, plus Yosemite. Surely this is an Apple contribution...?

No change here - add another name the growing list of frustrated folks who can no longer access the seamless internet calendar / iCloud function on the PC. You know - this was one of the big reasons I chose to stay within the Appleverse - but with the increasing number of failures, bugs, and other generally annoying update quirks, I am again asking why stay with Apple.

It seems like the last 2 years is more and more like the early 2000's where Macs just couldn't play nice. We had a good 10 years, but it seems like its a slipping again. Is it just me?

Update from my contact at Apple:

After further testing , it appears the issue is reproducible with with any shared calendars in Outlook, not just iCloud calendars. Apparently the Outlook team is working on a fix, so all we can we can do now is wait for an update to be released.

I have not tried a public Google Calendar but will today. I had been solely focussed on the icloud calendar not working and it seemed so coincidental that it happened at the same time as an update. There are posts at MS that it is being worked on.

Fingers crossed.

Debbie
