Yosemite random Crash - discoveryd_helper[147]: Basic RemoteControl com.apple.discoveryd_helper Starting XPC Server

Hi Everyone,

i have a crash every now and then. Looks like it has something to do with Networking or Bonjour.

anyone got any idea what it could be ? I learned that

there is no more com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist in OS X 10.10. The service that controls mDNSResponder is now discoverd. The plist file you are looking for is actually:

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist

You want to add

--no-multicast
to the ProgramArguments in that file.

  <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/usr/libexec/discoveryd</string> <string>--udsocket</string> <string>standard</string> <string>--loglevel</string> <string>Basic</string> <string>--logclass</string> <string>Everything</string> <string>--logto</string> <string>asl</string> </array>

Becomes

  <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/usr/libexec/discoveryd</string> <string>--udsocket</string> <string>standard</string> <string>--loglevel</string> <string>Basic</string> <string>--logclass</string> <string>Everything</string> <string>--logto</string> <string>asl</string> <string>--no-multicast</string> </array>

but doing this (adding

--no-multicast)
disables finding and communicating with printers in my network and my timemachine backup drive can't be found.

..... any clues ? this is driving me mad.

I have this bug too. Yosemite is crashing/freezing randomly since the first 10.0 release and by the way this was a while ago!. And to all IT IS NOT A HARDWARE ISSUE! I have testet this on 2 different MacBook Pro's. I created a 100% bit clone of a the freezing Yosemite hard drive. On the second MacBook Pro the SAME! With 10.9.x everything is fine! No log entry, no resolution? It is also NOT a problem to have wrong file access rights or similar. It is more a SOFTWARE BUG with the BROWSER ENGINE/LIBRARY. Sometimes I cannot open a URL, because Yosemite is freezing on this URL. Sometimes I cannot open an HTML email with Microsoft Outlook 2011 because Yosemite is freezing on this email. Maybe it is App Nap too. I don't know.

I'm also having this issue. I support about 90 Mac in a corporate environment. Approximately 30 of our Macs have updated to 10.10.3 from 10.8.5 and it's been a nightmare ever since. Computers are randomly shutting down and from what I've found in the log it seems like the same error everyone else is getting is related. I'm attaching my EtreCheck results below if anyone is able to help or point be in the right directions. Thanks.

Problem description:

Random shutdowns, Seems to happen while using the computer and while away from the computer.

It's been awhile since I last posted because I had narrowed the issue down to certain trigger (playing media/flash causes the crash). Now I have updated to 10.10.3, thinking okay maybe something has been done. Nope, I'm getting the crashes randomly again. Seems I might have to downgrade AGAIN.

Honestly Apple, I'm about ready to throw you the giant middle finger. I have an $9,000 mac pro work computer that crashes randomly! THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE OCTOBER 2014 AND THERE HAS BEEN NO INFORMATION REGARDING A FIX OR POSSIBLE FIX.

May 19, 2015 9:12 AM in response to Shadowstrider

So, I've been in contact with Apple Support and after many hours of trouble shooting with them, here are some things you can try:

1.) Create a new user account with admin rights and simply see if you get a crash as that user. I did not, which shows that the crashes were tied to my user account.

2.) a.) Create a directory on your desktop called "UserPreferences"

b.) In your User library ( /Users/Your_User/Library ) move/copy the contents of the folder "Preferences" into the "UserPreferences" folder on your desktop.

c.) Delete everything in the "Preferences" folder in your user library.

d.) Restart and log back in. You will notice some changes to your preferences but all your installed apps will still be there.

Solution 2 comes from the idea that something in your user preferences was causing the crash. So, if we remove them and start fresh, then we might eliminate w/e was causing the crash. If your not happy with how your preferences were changed, then simply move the contents of "UserPreferences" back to "Preferences"

I haven't tested 2 extensively yet but 1 was working for me. No crashes.

Hope this helps.

Just thought I would throw my hat in the ring and cry out a "me too" for this problem -- found this thread by googling what's in my crash logs...same dealio as all of you. I have a MacBookPro10,2 (the first 13" retina mbp, late 2012) with the CTO i7 cpu and 8GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 gfx. Ran this guy with ML/Mavericks since I got it and never had one single problem with it, hardware or software, until I upgraded to Yosemite. I wiped everything, did a clean install; same issue - I had zero third party apps installed and this happened right after fresh installing 10.10.3 just browsing with safari (not saying it has anything to do with safari just saying what happened). Looks like a pretty nasty bug; has happened three times since I did the wipe / fresh install. Doesn't seem logical, seems completely random. Any ideas what the statement in the logs actually means?

Oddly, when I started up after one of the crashes Chrome opened up even though it wasn't (or should not have been) running before the crash.

I noticed the same exact thing! Don't know if it's related but it seems pretty shifty eh?

May 24, 2015 11:37 PM in response to NiqueXyZ

I reported a very similar problem in another thread and for me the only solution was to reinstall my old Moutain Lion partition.

Since reverting to moutain lion... ZERO crash, and it's been 3 or 4 weeks now of quite heavy use.

For me Yosemite isn't production ready, plain and simple, and if you browse the web you'll find I'm not the only one having this opinion.

I don't know if it's Yosemite's fault or if third party software devs have a really hard time creating stable drivers for Yosemite but at the end of the day I don't care who's fault is this, I just need something STABLE... SO SIMPLY DON'T USE THIS !

One crash a month is more or less OK, one crash a day certainly is not.

May 26, 2015 2:36 PM in response to NiqueXyZ

Well, this is certainly interesting. It looks like Apple has finally come to their senses and has dropped the closed source discoveryd from the latest Yosemite and replaced it with the open source mDNSResponder we all know and love. I seriously doubt this issue has anything to do with discoveryd though (unfortunately); IMHO it's more than likely that what's in our logs is just a symptom of the issue, not the root cause -- the issue happens first, causes cascade, causes discoveryd to fail and eventually the system to freeze...although I could be wrong. Still it would be nice if everyone upgraded to the latest Yosemite and noticed that this issue was gone...hopefully it will be downloadable soon.

Hope can get some help regarding this matter too. I thought when changing my logic board it can run smoothly, but it doesn't.

just got repair under https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/. then i run AHT, found problem in my memory. Replaced it with the new one, then got this error.

what a week.....
