When the clerk asks for the last 4...

I've run into a problem with Apple pay I don't know how to get around. Several times (at Staples & Sports Authority) the transactions using Apple pay has gone smonthly until the clerk ask for the "last four numbers of the card." When I give them the last four from the passbook screen, the transaction fails. I am thinking this is because of the creation of a unique number for each transaction.

I am usually the first person the retailers have encountered using Apple pay so they know very little.

Any thought on how to overcome this?

Thanks!

Hello Alex!

Don't iSwitch just yet! I work for a major grocery store chain in California and we have yet to be trained AT ALL for iPay or Google pay! I suspect my company wants to wait till after the busy holiday season which for us will last till just after New Years. As a savoy grocery person I even went on to YouTube and found nothing for my end of questions as a retailer. So this is all new and we need to be patient.

I did, however, had a smarty pants Google phone user go through my register and use his phone...and it worked! Ugh! As a major Apple user and supporter I was embarrassed! 😊

I have gone to Macy's many times using my credit card and they ask for the last 4 digits OF THE CARD. I'll have to look closer at iPay on my phone to see about those "other" 4 digit numbers that I am not aware of.

Sincerely, JP
