siri speaks on my iPhone 6 Plus without asking a question

I have heard from several people over the past year saying Siri starts talking all on her own at odd times.

At 3:33 am today, and yes, it really was 3:33 am when I looked at the phone, Siri woke me up saying something I didn't quite catch. At first I thought it was my daughter talking in her sleep, but it wasn't, it wasn't her voice, it was definitly Siri's voice (male with Aussie accent); then I thought maybe I was dreaming it, but nope, not that either, because when I asked Siri to repeat what he said, he said, "I don't know the answer to that question Jill, but here are some links that might help you", and the phone showed 3 web links below about crawfish! So, then I thought maybe it was ME talking in my sleep. However, I don't recall dreaming about crawfish; honestly though, I don't remember what I was dreaming about, maybe I was eating, cooking, or ordering Creole food? I could've been, I suppose.

It's really very funny, but also disconserting at times, such as when it wakes me in the wee morning hours about something I didn't even know I was dreaming about. Could be downright spooky too. I'm now convinced Siri is schizophrenic. 😁😁😁

Are you sure it wasn't your mother on the phone? Yours is the first report I've ever heard of Siri behaving that way. If it never happens again, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you for your reply. Luckily, this happened while I was wide awake. And no, I don't talk in my sleep. Believe me, my husband would tell me and probably crack jokes about it, lol. It was very disconcerting and even creepy to be honest. I have owned many iPhones and I have never had this happen. I know how to use Siri well. I was really curious if this was a common problem. And if anyone else had a similar experience.

I am quite sure my mother wasn't on the phone. It was Siri. There is no mistaking that.

Any technology can have glitches as it is made by fallible humans. No, this is certainly not common.

There is a new feature in iOS 8, "Hey, Siri". If the phone is plugged in and you say, "Hey, Siri,,,,,", you can access Siri without pressing the button. Every once in a while, Siri will mistake something else it heard for "Hey, Siri" and will then try to parse whatever came after that as a request.

I find it very useful as I keep my phone in a charging cradle next to my bed. But if you don't like it, you can turn it off in Settings>General>Siri>Allow "Hey, Siri" and set it to off.

Mine did the same thing, I know my " hey Siri" was turned on the couple of times but the first time there was no voice or sound, it just started searching I thought my phone was being hacked!? the second time was there was a video happening in the background but nothing sounded like hey Siri command, are there any "lines getting crossed"? Who do we tell in regards to this its concerning as I don't want my phone to be accessed by an outsider in the vicinity!

Nothing sounded like "Hey, Siri" to you. However, you are much smarter than your phone. You have a much more advanced ability to distinguish words and to filter out background sounds.

This has happened to me a few times. In fact it happened Saturday night with friends over. The conversation was lively, and suddenly I noticed Siri was talking. I have no idea what actually set her off, because by the time I noticed it, I couldn't recall what was actually being said.

But it did make for a good laugh.

I have a mophie battery case. If I have it switched on to charge the phone, the phone thinks it's plugged in and suddenly, my pocket is talking to me. Weird but funny.
