If you are talking about the power supply issue (not audio connection), then I must say that - Yeah, it is possible, but you need to do some modification inside the iPod HiFi, connecting a pair of power wires with 12v cigatetter lighter plug at one end, and connecting with the metal part of the batteries slots, ➕ and ➖.
Please note that no one is going to guarantee it is 100% safe to do so, even 8 pcs. of 1.5v batteries = 12 volts.

But: Does anybody know about power draining of the HiFi?
If I convert 12 V > 220 V, how many Watt will it need?
Just to be sure the inverter outputs enough continous power.
