My Macbook is running very slow

PLEASE HELP!

Here is the report I pulled, I really don't know what all it means but I'm guessing that things in red aren't good!

Thanks for any help!

In red does not automatically mean that they are not "good", and in black does not mean automatically that they are "good".

You have one very serious problem: You one of the worst crap software on your mac: always bend your toes when you see names as Kromtech, Zeobit, Mackeeper, CleanMyMac.

You have installed MacKeeper. This must go. It can wait until after your answer on my Question (kexts are not loaded so damage will not be growing).

There are remnants of a lot of softwares that you used to have but are now gone and/or apps that were on your earlier operating system but are not compatible with Yosemite, and/or are not uninstalled when you decided not to use those (any more).

Only one thing to do now:

In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems remove all entries with the minus sign underneath, then restart: you now have to start the app that you want by hand.

QUESTION: Now I am proposing to think over whether it is possible for you to do a "fresh" or "clean" install of Mavericks: this has the advantage that all rubbish is gone and that you only have to install what you really need now. I will give you the list that should not be installed in Yosemite that is now on your computer.

It is not rellay difficult to do but it will take hours to do, depending whether you already have backups or not.

Thank you very much for the advice. I really had no idea about MacKeeper, I will uninstall it right now.

There really is nothing on my computer that I haven't already backed up. I could eliminate everything and start over if that is the easiest thing to do. I'm not sure of how to do that so that it completely wipes everything but can certainly follow any steps.

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi Cale,

If you have backups of everything, good, for a "fresh" "clean" install you should not use TimeMachine, but a 'normal' backup. And you have to download all apps again, but only from a trusted source, thus not from aggregate sites like Softonic ,or Cnet Download, or what have you. The installers from these sites seem to be manipulated with adware or malware (read thesafemac.com ).

But before you take that step you also must realise that you now have software installed that will not run (or very poorly) in Yosemite: Rim(Blackberry), Logitec, Leapfrog, HP software, SealedMedia Unsealer, KeyRemap4Mac (it may be that its successor Karabiner is working in Yosemite), Alladin, MoveMediaPlayer....

As far as I know DivX, Facebook Plugin, Logmein are not (yet) ready for Yosemite.

As you see a long list.

Did everything work well in Mavericks?

For now, go to SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems and remove ALL entries there with the minus sign underneath: this will not uninstall anything, but prevents it form running (or trying to run) after a startup. Most of these apps are not even there at all now. After this restart the mac.

Difficult choice: most of the list above you do not nee at all. But some maybe you need, then you have to find an alternative.

This is what I have now. I still see things that say mackeeper but i've deleted it. Not sure. I am going to reboot again and check it out.

I don't think that I did the last few updates to the OS so this was a big jump. It worked fine until my keyboard was messed up then I didn't use it for awhile. Now just trying to get it all up and running again.

"I don't think that I did the last few updates to the OS so this was a big jump"

That explains a lot, why you have a lot of "old" software on your mac.

The MacKeeper is not fully on, so the risks are lower.

I assume that the Mac is behaving a little bit better, without all that running that were trying to start from the User/LoginItems.

A fresh install would be not very difficult, but the real work is deciding on software that you need and is compatible with Yosemite.

In the mean time we can get rid of some that have to go in either case:

MacKeeper first:

Read this article about MacKeeper:

http://www.thesafemac.com/beware-mackeeper/#more-245

very enlightening!

1. If MacKeeper is running, quit it. Move the application to the Trash (you already did that, I think)

In Finder goto MacintoshHD->Library->ApplicationSupport, delete the MacKeeper folder.

2. in Finder menu, click the GO menu, hold the Alt(option) key, and choose Library, this folder will open, open the Caches folder, delete the files that begin with com.zeobit.... (2)

3. go back one level to this Library folder and open the LaunchAgents folder, and delete the files that begin with com.zeobit... files (2 normally)

4. go back one level to the Library folder and open the Preferences folder, delete the files that begin with com.zeobit.... (2)

that's it in Finder.

5. Go to Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.app and double click on it. Notice the padlock in the window is up there on the left, rather than down the bottom. Click on it and enter your admin password. Now go through all the items in the ‘Keychains‘ list (such as Login, System, Root) with ‘All items’ selected in the ‘Category’ list. Anything you find related to ‘MacKeeper’ or ‘zeobit’ or Kromtech, click on it, then choose Edit > Delete from the KeychainAcces menu.

Restart the mac. Empty the Trash bin.
