I'm having the same problem as Cambriah. My phone gets to the apple logo and then turns off again. When I try to download the update from itunes it's extremely slow and keeps crashing before it gets to even 5% of the 1.5 gigbyte (!!!!) download, and then it forces me to start it all over again. I really don't want to have to restore factory settings
Now I have the update downloaded but when I try to install it it says my iphone can't be updated and I have to restore factory settings...

Having the email addresses of 600,000 people neither increases your credibility here nor scares Apple. Nor is it the same thing as having friends.
......and since your download of 8.1.1 if that is correct...what is your call?
So I spent about an hour on the phone with tech support (mostly on hold) and here is what they told me to do to fix it. Whike the phone is stuck on the apple logo screen hold the power button and the home button at the same time. The phone will shut off and then turn back on to the apple screen, at which point let go of the power button but continue to hold the home button. This sends the phone back to factory settings with no software at all. You have to connect it to iTunes and restore the phone from back up or set up as a new phone. This fixed my problem, I hope it helps you as well! Good luck!
