Binding problem

All over suddeb the binding of my iMac to my Mac Server doesn't work anymore. I noticed that the normally green Network Account Server light in the Login OPtions of the User&Groups preferences of my iMac stayed red.

I thought I am clever and started to Edit the server settings by simply deleting the existing details and adding them new.

O.K.: my server is shown in the drop down list, the sual SSl questions come up which i trust, I enter the user credentials and press o.k.

Then the little spinning wheel with the words "Binding" next it appears and then the following error message:

The interesting think is that I am using the exact same credentials on my iBook where everything works perfectly.

I tried the same after I rebotted the server. Same.

Any ideas ??

PS: I am user Mac Server 4.0

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Is your Open Directory using SSL? I had an issue recently wherein OD was rejecting my third party certificate (or even the self-signed certificate sometimes) without me knowing it and I would get this error above when trying to bind.

Not using SSL. I don't really want to go out and get an SSL cert...so any ideas how to get around that?

You can use your self-signed cert (free and generated when you set up Server.app).

Try it and see if that error goes away. Go to Server.app > Certificates > Secure services using... > Set self-signed for Open Directory.

Before you leave that tab though, go back in to Custom and see if it stays set, just in case.

Now for purity, I'd say restart your server and client before trying to bind again.

Yes, checked-it was (is) using a self signed cert for OD. Still no luck binding.

Silly question but which account are you trying to bind with? OS X has a local admin account. But when you promoted the server to an Open Directory Master you created a diradmin account with a password. That is the account you need to use to bind. The server's local admin account will not work.

Just want to make sure you are using the correct account.

No silly questions-I am most definitely using the OD Master: I kept it as diradmin, and am using that to bind.

So update to this thread. I wiped my mac mini server clean, and did a clean install of Yosemite and Server. Once I did, my client machine binded without issue.
