How to see the progress of sychronisation on iCloud Drive

I have recently started to make monthly payments for a 200 GB storage on iCloud Drive. I have moved all my folders to the iCloud Drive folder on my Mac and my Mac started to upload the files to the iCloud Drive. When I go to system preferences and then iCloud, I can see how much of the total size of my folders are uploaded to the iCloud Drive. But is this my only indication of the status of the synchronisation? I expected to find more information on my synchronisation status like at what speed the folders are being uploaded, whether a certain folder is uploaded or being uploaded, etc. Any idea? Or is this a missing feature at this moment that Apple is considering to introduce in a next update of Yosemite?

. But we do not have an icon next a file that could indicate if the file is in queue. This is what I am missing and I think it is not an unreasonable thing to have.

You could send feedback to Apple, that either the cloud status of a document should be shown in Finder with status icons, or if it is already available somewhere, should be better documented, so we can find it.

You can use this form: Apple - iCloud - Feedback

Without any clearly accessible help from Apple, I believe I have some answers.

In Finder, if viewing in the icons view option, the files literally say "synching" or "waiting" underneath them.

In all other Finder views, if there is a cloud icon drawn with a solid line, this means that the file is currently "synching" (you can see this label appear if you mouseover the icon in Finder for long enough).

In all other Finder views, if there is a cloud icon drawn with a dotted line, this means that the file is currently "waiting" to synch (ditto re mouseover label).

So don't rush to sleep / shut down one Mac [if you are intending to continue working on the same iCloud-based files on another Mac / device] until the files have finished synching (no cloud icons at all). Otherwise you will end up being presented with a conflict notification.

The synching process doesn't appear to happen at anything remotely approaching the maximum / regular file transfer speeds that your internet connection supports (be that basic ADSL, fibre or cable). It happens at Apple speed. A bit like software updates, but in the opposite direction. 🙂

Thanks Johathan UK!

As I was reading through this discussion I was starting to get a bit frustrated at Csound 1's snarly (IMO) attitude toward the OP. But your post, and the tip to view things as ICONS, was helpful. Has anyone had to wait a long time for a "waiting" file to eventually upload to iCloud.com? I have a video file in my iCloud folder in the finder that has been waiting forever to upload to iCloud.com.

Hello Pitiger,

no real help here, but I've had similar questions and Csound1 was annoying and unhelpful, and I'll say wrong. Of course it's synching files that are on your local Mac with those on your remote storage in Apple's cloud. If this were not the case, you would not be able to access your files from your device if your device was not on the internet.
