Mail not fetching new messages from GoDaddy IMAP

In both 10.10 and now with 10.10.1, Mail does not seem to want to fetch new messages from my GoDaddy IMAP account reliably. All of the other accounts seem to get new messages when they arrive at the server. I'm sure there are messages in my Inbox, as they're showing up immediately on my iPhone. "Synchronize All Accounts" does not seem to resolve the issue and I have to quit and relaunch Mail. The messages then come in immediately. I have mail set to check for new messages every minute. I can see it checking the GoDaddy account in the activity window, but it does not retrieve the messages.

This is seriously and absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing on both the part of GoDaddy as well as Apple. I've been calling both for YEARS about this issue and not a single representative has given me anything worthwhile in the dozens of hours I've flat-out wasted on the phone.

I'm about to call GoDaddy and get my money back for my recent $150 transaction to keep the IMAPs around.

Hi all! Same problem (and for a year+ now). GoDaddy imap...macmail doesnt retrieve anything within last month most of the time. GoDaddy says...after much testing i might add which i was impressed...."not our fault, it's a Mac thing." Mac says "GoDaddy fault...nothing ever is wrong with Apple products"...then hit them with, yeah GoDaddy works with numerous other mail clients, and it replicates issues on MacBook/iMac...but works fine with Mail app on iPhone/iPad.....to which they respond...."Uh can we get back to you and stuff!" 😊

So i used AirMail 2 for about a year, which worked....however, every new message would come in and instantly list as "already read"...which caused me to miss a lot of important messages as i get 150'ish emails a day and it's hard to keep track....but i limped along..just happy to get the emails.

GOOD NEWS....ditch everything else. I've been using Postbox 3 for the last week on all iMac/MBP....and it works brilliantly. It works better than MacMail for that matter and does full integration with Mac Spotlight...etc. Check it out...you'll be happy you did! http://www.postbox-inc.com/ there's a 30 day free trial as well.

No. This is a Community Forum.

Yes, it is a Community Forum ... but isn't Apple part of their 'own' community?

I've seen many community forums where the manufacture replies to it's community... especially when there product may have an issue.

I must admit the phone support from both Apple and Godaddy is second to none. Always polite, helpful and supportive... BUT, this isn't just a a small bug fix... this is an ONGOING issue, involving many customers, over a matter of years.

I have spent hours of my time over the past "few years"... on both Godaddy and Apples Phone support.. as well as ongoing reference number emails to follow the issue... but nothing ever changes or is fixed. Apple blames Godaddy... GoDaddy blames Apple.

Other then the people in just this thread... imagine the thousands of customers who have had this ongoing issue over the years... but aren't part of this thread.

I have both cpanel and gmail IMAP email accounts that are rock solid with MAC mail... so my gut instinct is that Godaddy will be the issue... but at some point you would hope these 2 major size businesses could communicate.... to work this LONG standing issue out.

My 2 cents worth !!!

My email stopped syncing this week and I found out from godaddy I simply had too many emails. They said if you have over 20000 emails their system starts to not sync properly.

I solved it by logging into workspace and purging about 7k emails. I sell online, so I get a ton of emails that are just order confirmations. As soon as these were permanently deleted by using the "purge" button in workspace, my go daddy email started syncing again.

I had myself convinced it was a problem with Apple Mail, since initially my iPhone still worked. But then one day my iPad and iPhone stopped syncing too. Turns out it was a go daddy problem all along.

While I'm glad it worked for you, I hardly believe that this will do anything to solve the issue for most of us.

I, for one, keep my inbox, sent-box and trash clean at all times and have been having this issue for years on end. It is both a GoDaddy and Apple problem. They're both well aware of it. I call one, they blame the other. It's how it's been.

Here's how I fixed the problem:

Overview: This document explains how to clear out the cache in your email application on your Mac.

  1. Right-click (or control-click) your Exchange Inbox
  2. Click Folder Properties
  3. Click the General Tab
  4. Click Empty Cache

Note: This will clear out any locally cached emails and re-sync your email application with the Exchange server. This process will take several minutes and appears as though nothing is happening. Rest assured, your local cache is being cleared and when the process is complete you will be able to click the OK button.

After clearing the outlook cache it synced and downloaded my mail

I've had this issue for well over a year now, too. I just upgraded to Yosemite, and now everything is a mess. None of my sent mail is showing on my Mail client, and I can't get messages from my GoDaddy server at all. I use to be able to take accounts offline, then online, and they would sync. Now, that doesn't work nor does shutting down Mac Mail and restarting it.

I wish I knew where to start, with Apple or GoDaddy. I used to use Network Solutions for hosting and email, and while they were really pricey, I never had these issues.

Robbo1976, I don't know what you are referring to when you say "RIght-click your Exchange Inbox." If I right click the inbox on Mac Mail or GoDaddy I don't get a "Folder Properties" option.

I've been having this problem ever since 10.10.3.

With the 10.10.4 update it has got much worse.

Mail.app is frequently unresponsive, usually doesn't display any messages at all, and I'm frequently required to force-quit.

I'm now done with Mail.app and am giving Postbox a spin.

Between this and iCloud Music Library destroying my 80GB mp3 collection, this is the worst Mac OS X update I have ever experienced.

I've been using the Mac since before OS X came out. I used to tell friends and family members, "get a Mac, they're great - everything just works!".

Sadly those days are gone, and I couldn't possibly make the same recommendation today. Apple's desktop applications are a buggy mess.

Me too - since Yosemite - continued now in El Capitan - but getting worse instead of better. El Capitan 10.11.2 seems to try to start its download of ALL messages stalled at a week ago with the thousands of messages it had already downloaded - really frustrating - use GoDaddy's webmail tools even tho that is less than optimal as far as showing inline images and attaching images or have an automatic BCC to myself - so I hop back and forth - hate this. Is anyone at Apple monitoring this forum?

Well, I've been on Postbox for a few hours and you're right. Great program and only $15. Works pretty much the same as mac mail program, but way better with GoDaddy's imap email.

GOOD NEWS....ditch everything else. I've been using Postbox 3 for the last week on all iMac/MBP....and it works brilliantly. It works better than MacMail for that matter and does full integration with Mac Spotlight...etc. Check it out...you'll be happy you did!
