IOS 8.1.1 WiFi Problems after Update

Last night I updated the software on my ipad 4. After the update I had WiFi-problems. The network was always interrupted. Has anyone the same problems? Is there a solution? I am very grateful for an answer! I'm using an iPad 4. Thanks!

I also had this problem with my new ipad air 2. We also started having a similiar problem with our fire tv. Both devices use the new 802.11 AC wireless protocol but my router was only an N router. So I bought a new wireless router that user AC and it has fixed the problem for bother my ipad and my fire tvs. The new AC protocol is amazing. Faster and much more range. I can stay connected to my network from my neighbor's house down the street. Not sure if this would fix the problem on older Apple devices or not. Not sure if this is all software or a combo of software/hardware issues. You'd have to do more research. Good luck - I was so frustrated too.

I have an iPad 4 and it worked fine with the wifi everywhere in the house prior to update 8.1.2. It is not the router! I am a computer nerd 6 computers 3 laptops and everything else works fine. The only thing that is acting up is the iPad. It drops wifi constantly and to boot is a brick unless i am sitting in front of the modem. The new update killed the iPad. I am angry with the idiots that sissy play (reboot the modem) The modem and router is not the issue as I am sitting on my laptop while my iPad wifi does not work. IT quit working after the new update!!!!

Hi people,

THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME: CONNECT YOUR IPAD TO YOUR COMPUTER AND UPDATE THE IOS TO 8.1.2 VIA ITUNES.

Shortly after updating my non-3G iPad 2 to IOS 8.1.1 which I had to do in order to use the newest version of an application that was important to me, I experienced a complete failure to connect to wi-fi. It would attempt to log on to wifi routers but would grind away and was never able to complete the connection. I also noticed a "no service" indicator in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Also, I kept getting the inexplicable message "unable to connect to cellular" which was especially odd because this is an non-cellular iPad.

I fiddled with some of the settings for a while to no avail and then I reset the "network settings" but this did not change anything. I was traveling at the time so I did not want to reset the whole system... that is a last resort and would cause alot of [unnecessary] work getting things back to normal.

When I got home I USB'd the iPad to my Macbook and iTunes told me the IOS 8.1.2 update was available. Halleluja! Strangely, the only fix in this update that was mentioned was some unrelated thing about ringtones. But this was my best shot and I commenced the update. I carefully watched it download and install and noticed there was a firmware update that ran during the installation. I thought this was a good sign. When it was done, my iPad automatically rebooted all my connectivity problems and weirdness were gone. Everything was back to normal, thank goodness. Apparently the secret firmware update had fixed everything.

Me too seems before the update I was having problems with WIFI/Bluetooth staying connected to the Internet and my blutooth earbuds had trouble staying connected to the IPad 3. Now the wifi seems to be staying connected to the wifi modem,my Bluetooth will not connect my earbuds. It shows my neighbor blutooth device. Hope Apple reads this and update soon.

Since I had IOS 8.1.1 on my iPad 2 at the time I experienced all the connectivity problems, the [incremental] update iTunes got for me was 8.1.2. So 8.1.2 is the IOS currently installed and working fine. I know that the very latest update is 8.1.3 which was and is also available and if I do another software update check, it says IOS 8.1.3 is available if I want it. IOS 8.1.3 could be just as good for the connectivity fix but I think I will stick with IOS 8.1.2 seeing as how it is working well for me. After dealing with Apple software updates for iPhones and iPads and Macs (for the last 25 years) I have come to the conclusion that if the existing operating system is doing what you want than don't mess with it. Software updates for ANY older device invariably slow it down and do more harm than good sometimes, and I update only if I am having issues --and only after any particular update has been out for a while to see if other users are complaining about it. "If it works don't fix it". That is my humble opinion. And IOS 8.1.2 works for me in my 3-year old iPad 2. That is not to say that if you have an iPad Air or something, IOS 8.1.3 might be necessary or better.

After the upgrade, my 4S became totally scrambled: wifi was totally lost (and no, I will not freeze the phone or use a blow dryer trick to get it back); the OS thinks cellular access is turned off to certain apps no matter the setting; camera freezes, and the need to constantly reboot finished it for me.

I cured the problem, however, by moving to an HTC M8 Windows phone and I look forward to a new set of quirks from this OS, too.

I've used Apple products since 1979 and this company has always hated software so this shouldn't come as a surprise.
