Your Java comes in as invalid. Go to http://www.java.com/ to verify you are currently running the most current version of Java.

Get rid of CleanmyMac. Any utility that clears system caches actually slows down your Mac. The worst of these is MacKeeper, which requires these removal directions:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036

Go2Meeting may need to be updated, and if there isn't one for Yosemite, see these uninstallation/downgrade directions:

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1948

Find out the source of DNSmasq. If you are doing personal websharing, you may need to use a different program for that.

See if disabling Google Drive and File sharing helps.

->abrody: CMM is even worse than MacKeeper, howdo 😀 Lex)

BB: You have or had two mac killers installed: CleanMyMac and Trusteer Rapport. And Java is not good.

You have a beautiful MBA: we are going to get rid of the two crapwares and I give you an article on how to install Java in Yosemite.

1-- CMM: Open the app, in the left navigation panel the is an uninstaller, uninstall the app. Then download FindAnyFile

from http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

and install it, open it and type macpaw in the search field

then hold the Alt(option) key and click the Finf button, type your password.

In the list CTL+click every entry with macpaw and "move to trash" ; it remains visible but is now in the trash as you can see.

Then type cleanmymac in the search field, again hit the Find button, there should be no entry found, but if, move it to the trash.

RESTART the mac.

Empty the trash bin.

2-- Rapport (Trusteer): it is not compatible with the latest OSXs, it is badly programmed and counterproductive, do not use it even when an ignorant bank advisor tells you to. Even when it is now IBM.

Read this interesting article: http://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/04/a-closer-look-at-rapport-from-trusteer/

(the first word "Krebs" is german for cancer).

Trusteer Rapport has a block against uninstalling, I would use the instructions here:

http://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x

Restart after the uninstall, empty the trash.

Then I would use FindAnyFile again with the words trusteer and rapport. Be careful what you move to the trash.

3-- Java: if you really really need it, read here how to install Java in Yosemite.

http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/21/get-java-os-x-yosemite/

Thanks a brod and Lex! Ok I did the stuff you suggested. I also tried uninstalling Java via terminal and according to Oracle it should be uninstalled but I'm not sure. Seems to be running much better but it generally does at the beginning after a restart I think. Here's my updated EtreCheck log:

These two are still there:

dev.dnsmasq.plist

dev.nginx.plist

I would take out these Github "hobbies" for the time being, and wait until it runs flawlesly, if you need it at all.

Now take out by hand, some remnants:

empty the trash bin now,

In Finder go to MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchAgents and delete the google.keystone file and the oracle.java file

go to MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchDaemons and delete the google.keystone file and the oracle.java file

and also the two github files.

Restart

empty the trash bin.

Note: first time I see Airmail 2: uses a lot of resources when syncing !?

See how it does now, should be good,

Lex

(and thanks to AB 😎 )

ALL Google wares are garbage and total resource hogs on Mac OS X.

And, personally, I loathe Google software.

Ditch Google Chrome and Drive.

If you do not like Apple's Safari (which is tailor made for OS X ), download, install and try using Mozilla FireFox web browser, instead.

Mozilla Firefox is less intrusive on OS X and is a much more Mac friendly web browser and is regularly updated by the Mozilla group.

Also, I have stopped regularly using the Google search engine and have switched to using the DuckDuckGo web search engine, instead.

1. Can you tell me a bit more about the external disks: one WD of 2TB, used for what?

What is the 1TB disk MyPassport with 0 backups that is mentioned in TimeMachine?

2. I agree with Michel about Google apps.

Why not take Google drive out of the SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems (with the minus sign underneath).

Really Quit Chrome (from the menu).

Then restart and do not use them for a day or so?

3. Update Flashplayer

4. Airmail uses a considerable amount of resources. If #2 does not lessen the issue, could you also stop using Airmail for a day?

Lex

Dec 2, 2014 10:24 AM in response to Lexiepex

Sorry!

  1. I use both of those for local file storage of large files I don't want to store on my comp and aren't all that important (movies etc)
  2. Took out Google Drive and did what you suggested
  3. updated flashplayer
  4. So I first stopped using chrome and Airmail for a few days and didn't have the lag. I then switched back to using chrome but continued to not use Airmail and the lag still didn't reappear. It was only after using Airmail again for a bit that I started to see the issue again and a quick search showed that others are finding Airmail 2 to use a ton of CPU's

All possible useless reply by Apple fanatics, but the only one that is obvious is not mentioned: Yosemite IS HEAVY! I don't need nor want Appleware other than the OS itself which is a polished BSD. I went back to ML and now my mac is "flying". I advise you to do the same if you have no need for appleware other than the OS.

Apple boy solutions: Do this, do that, or possibly this, maybe that or uninstall this or that, but the heaviness of the OS is never considered.

I'm using AIRMAIL and CHROME and ALL possible 3rd party softwares, like Vox for music... running like a jet with ML! Now, if I boot into Yoyomite which is installed in a different partition all tartarus breaks loose.
