Remove Header Columns

I would like to remove the 3 header columns in Pages 5. I realize some people state that you don't need to remove them. You can just type and the column expands, however this is not the case. If you create advanced headers such as the one shown, the three prevent the design from working.

Forget about the three-panels in the heading.

  • View > Layout Mode
  • Insert Text Box
    • Create your own header
    • Color fill > White
  • Use the blue guides to align on both document edges, then expand slightly more on each end
  • Drag the Text Box over the top of the three-panel heading. Adjust to suit.
  • View > Hide Layout Mode

Note, do not move this Text Box Object to Section Master, unless you want this heading effect on every document page.

This effect survives export to PDF and Word documents.

In Pages 6.0, you can save do the following

  1. create a blank document
  2. export the document to Page 09 format
  3. close the blank document
  4. open the newly exported document in Pages
  5. now you have a single column header but you can't go back to 3 columns. if you need multi-lines 3 columns, you can insert text boxes and position them with tabs

You can also export the blank document to Word format but it will also include all the default styles for a Word document.

Note: I do not know how long this method will remain effective as Apple may change the behaviour any time.
