Slow UPS delivery for top of the range 27-inch, 4.0GHz with Retina 5K display

I ordered my iMac

  • 27-inch with Retina 5K display
  • 4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
  • 32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB
  • 1TB Flash Storage
  • AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5

for not just pocket money on the 3rd of November and it said that it would be ready for shipment between 7 and 10 working days. In the meantime I got an email form Apple notifying me that there will be a delay. The iMac has now started shipping on the 22 November, but shipping has been extremely slow:

22/11/2014 15:56 Origin Scan
China 22/11/2014 0:17 Order Processed: Ready for UPS

My iMac now got stuck for over 2 days in Shanghai, China (it's there now 20:51) - why is that, and is there anything Apple could do to speed up the delivery?

Well, I am a bit confused anout "Requestioneer´s" reply. I do not know what you mean by "one own credit card for your payment" but wrote that your message about the credit card phone number made sense (nothing to do with what "MarcSch" wrote what so ever) I did not use my own credit card for the payment due to the limitations Visa and the normal Master Card has. I was unable to charge them with the amount it cost. I wired the money into my mothers account and used her higher level Master Card to pay for the order. However I cant see why this should hold up the shipping. Well, a day or so maybe, but I ordered it the 4th and now its been almost a month since that date.

Also, the lact of replies from me has nothing to do with the answers, it has to do with time. I will reply this evening when I have more time.

Hi MikeElo,

That is good for you, I am glad this conversation can be help to anyone.

However, I don't like it when someone (e.g. requestioneer) starts shouting (CAPITAL) on message boards and and "assumes" things that are just not true. The way he entered the conversation by suggesting that I could have ordered express shipping... That option was not available... Etc... I just don't like people with an attitude...

I am currently installing all my software and the first problem I came across is that my external HDD is not compatible with Yosemite :-) Even though I formatted it with my MacBook Pro as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" - I used the time Apple/UPS gave me 😉 with putting all my documents on this 1TB drive. I now can't use it, and have to use a 500GB drive which works fine after I formatted it with my new iMac using also the "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" format... And the second problem I so far came across is that I can't connect to my AirPort Time Capsul (3TB latest generation), even though I am using this as the main Wi-Fi router which the iMac is using without any problems. It just seems to timeout when trying to connect... But I am sure I'll find a way to get all this sorted 🙂

I hope you will receive your iMac soon!

Hi Mike, i am afraid but i cannot help with what appears to be a chronical reason for signaled persistent and ofen recurring confusion.

But to answer a direct question, i do not work for apple, rejected 2 job offers from there in fact as they pay under industry average and have laughable benefit structures for overperformers - i am a forum user that has ordered many items on UPS on myself, was running a distribution business in switzerland that involved factory direct dropshipping using multiple carriers and moderate a hobby forum so i am sick of having to play the role of the white rabbit or overlook this petty crybaby mentality on (other) forums if i choose to post here.

I do ahve 3 macs and 2 hackintoshes so i am a bit into the technical side of these so i am posting here.

As for my still open question, did you pay for the mac on yourself by one card regsitered on yourself or did you use the corporate amex, wife´s goldcard, 2 own cards or gift cards/ cash to found the purchase ?

In this case you can stop to confuse me with a miracle, my knowledge of your shipment not being on delivery by today roots by combining this detail with my experience on dropshipping.

Hi Marc, the above set of 3 replies only displayed to me after posting mine, sorry to hear that the word "capital" did offend you, i certainly hope i remedied this by posting this no caps that time ?

As for the time machine issue, if it connected without nay setup you have an open network and i would fix that as a first.

Secondly, if you had an icloud account set up on your old machine you have to set this up on the new machine as well in first before it will sync with a time machine.

I suppose this is what you ment to say with `hdd does not work with yosemite`- it could as well be that this hdd is defective if it took you more than 20 days to put a backup of a 32 gb filesystem on there ?

In case you wanted to boot and start an install from there you would have to set this accordingly by selecting boot disks on boot using a keyboard commend input.

No need to specify terrabyte size of a the time machine or when you bought it, and as for the macbook the version would have been interresting to know - is it a 32 bit vintage model as these had issues to adress disk0´s if larger than i believe 500 gb in one partition and may have formatted this incorrectly to be used with a 64bit mac.

I already answered that.

And yes, it is a violation, just as it would be if I asked you to identify your employer.

Concerning the setup ofd access to a time capsule the user has to set it as location of backups in the icloud settings.

apps for 32 bit macs will need reinstall if running a 64 bit OSX version and platfrom, basically all apps for OSX 106 and older will have this issue with them if upgrading to yosemite on macs with 64 bit efi.

Marc must have forgotten how he did this when he received his recently released iphone 6, it is similar for macs in osx 10.10, we can never confirm this detail as he likely will not log in as there will be nothing to complain about - or share user experience as he called it - in after he received his mac.

I hope everyone else in wait for a delivery will take this as a lesson that investing more nerves into it will not speed up the delivery, if time if of importance book the express shopping options that everyone ordering form the online store can use but marc did not get offered when haggling over the price for his gift crd founded ( exact limited credit) purchase.
