Davinci resolve render problem with new Mac Pro

Hello,

we are having strange glitching effects (as shown in attachments) while exporting from DaVinci Resolve.

The project is in 4K.

Maybe it is related to an heating issue? We have seen that it doesn’t manifests if we divide the exporting process into smaller chunks (single shots) but if we export the project all together after a while it comes up (like if it is correlated to the temperature of the graphic card).

Details:

Mac Pro (late 2013)

2,7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5

64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC

2xAMD FirePro D700 6144 MB

OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (but it also appeared with 10.9)

DaVinci Resolve 11.1.1.006

What should we do?

Thanks.

Hello, we are suffering since weeks with this Mac Pro Problem. Of course the hardware test Apple forced us to run before any action can take place was negative - with no problems. Obvious that this was the result, as the test doesn´t ask the machine to render like we have to do it daily. We installed 11.1.3 with no difference in the results. Still horizontal lines as soon as the temperature goes above something like 60 Celcius. We are looking forward to get any smart advice how to solve this pressuring problem. Apple seems to ignore this problem. May be it is time to go legal. Anybody willing to go with us?

It seems more likely you have a sample defect (a problem or failure in your Mac or a group of Macs) than a fundamental design flaw. You should present your Mac to an Apple service outlet, show them how to reproduce the problem, and try to get replacement parts or the attention of Engineering.

Litigation will certainly get Apple's attention. They will assign members of their Legal team to defend the company from such actions, which they may consider frivolous. No Engineering effort is likely to be applied to a Legal problem. Litigation often drags on for years, and the only one who ever gets a substantial amount of money from it is the lawyers.

Hi Grant,

thank you for your help and advice. I have no idea how to get this thing solved. I need to pass the problem a level higher, as in the service outlet they will blame it to the software. The software company will blame it back to Apple, because it is a problem only occurring with the Mac Pro 2013. Any advice how to adress somebody from Apple really interesting in what their clients experience with their machines?

Thx a lot

Thanks for you recommendation Grant,

This nightmare all started October 15th when I decided to make me a present and make my life easier upgrading my coloring gear with the "most powerful mac desktop" on the market.

After spending almost 11K not only I wasted time and money and lost clients but all this is still not over at today's date after a 3rd MAC PRO desktop replacement and after going through apple care to have my 2 D700 and logic board replaced on the last one!!!

Hours and hours of driving to the store, order a new replacement, wait days, reinstall drivers and softwares, render tests etc etc!!!

I'm definitely up for a legal action, I can document all the hours and job lost.

2pilots, how would you proceed?

I did try the latest updates OS and Resolve.

I'm giving up and today I'm returning the 32 tb of storage I bought from B&H Pegasus 2R8 worth 5K that had no purpose without the new MAC PRO.

They made an exception and let me return the storage even after 30 days, thanks guys!

Also engineers from Apple said they would have called to find a solution ... that was over 10 days ago and I'm still waiting to hear back!

If you bought Applecare, you can call them up and bend their ear about it (first 90 days included free, even if you did not buy AppleCare). If you ever registered as a Developer, you can file a Bug Report. If you are a supported Educational Institution or National Account extra resources are available to you through those connections.

If you have none of those, you can still give Apple feedback:
