What the Code 28 Error Is

The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).

Code 28 is a device manager error indicating that the drivers for a given hardware device are not installed. This error means that a previous attempt to update the driver failed or a driver was uninstalled for a given device but was not replaced/updated. This error prompts you to reevaluate your driver installation and reinstall the driver if necessary. In most cases, reinstalling the driver will fix the problem.

I know this is an old post, but I am having the same issue at the moment on the same Mac Pro, did you ever get it resolved?

Are there any drivers available from Apple for this device? The links above takes you to Marvell support page where you need to enter the part# and without knowing that, what should we download?

As far as I am aware the Mac Pro 2010 model does not have an ATA interface at all, both the standard hard drive bays and the optical bays are SATA interfaces.

With regards to 'Marvell' this is a commonly used chipset for SATA cards and I have needed to install a driver for a PCI SATA card to let Windows in Boot Camp correctly see and use it.

Do you have any PCI cards fitted to your Mac? Perhaps an eSATA card, or a PCI to SATA adapter for an SSD, or even a PCI SATA RAID controller? If so it maybe you need to install the driver for that card. (Like I did.)

If you don't have a PCI card that might account for this then normally Windows should either auto-detect and install any needed drivers or the Apple Boot Camp driver installer package should take care of things. Have you used Boot Camp Assistant to generate the installer for the drivers for Boot Camp on your Mac Pro?
