Game Development in C++?

Hi there!

My name is Luis and I am 14 years old. I am having a big question about 2d Game Dev in C++ on Mac OS X.

I have been programming (console only) in c++ for about 2 months now and I really understand the syntax of the language now. The problem is, i can't really find any well referenced, alive framework/engine/anything that would let me create C++ games on my Mac. I know Apple is using Swift and Obj-C but I fell much more comfortable with C++ and I do not want to learn another language any soon.

I hope that any of you guys have some concrete ideas and tips on where I could start (and of course learn via youtube and books) developing 2d games in C++.

I am not looking forward on publishing those games, or making them iOS games. I just want to make games as a hobby! (IN C++)<< end;

Thanks a lot 🙂

A quick search (c++ os x games) turns up a number of possibilities.

  1. List of game engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  2. Simple DirectMedia Layer - Homepage
  3. cocos2d/cocos2d-x · GitHub
  4. Related toolkits and APIs - OpenGL.org
  5. [C++] Mac OS X Game Engine "OpenGL" - For Beginners ...

plus a few more.

However if you plan to do any development on OS X (or IOS at some point) it would be best if you were to learn and use the tools supplied by the platform developer. In this case you should take the time to learn ObjectiveC and Swift.
