You need a supported monitor to play HDCP protected content.

i've had the same problem after upgrading to Yosemite ! something has to be done ! apple has to be held accountable ! it was working fine prior to the upgrade. so i've tried everything in the display options screen and nothing worked. i've switched HDMI cables and still the error pops up. i disconnected everything from my HDTV and can't transmit. so last weekend my nephew came over with a lap top running on windows, and guess what it WORKED !!!!!!! so it isn't a netflix problem , it isn't a cable issue , it isn't a HDTV issue , it's an apple issue . and seriously it needs to get resolved like yesterday ! i even literally purchased a apple tv today, in hopes to get netflix on my tv tomorrow , and still same error pops up. while i'm able to watch netflix with no problem on my laptop. i'm thinking it's something to do with the licensing , its getting pretty frustrating paying for a service you can't enjoy from the comfort of your living room !

Netflix isn't using Silverlight for Macs at the moment if you're on Safari. It's a new version of HTML5. The irritating thing is that Netflix knows about this issue, and keeps telling people to "just switch over to Chrome," instead of trying to figure out what the actual issue is. I'm having the same issue the OP and other posters are having, in that I have a relatively new MacBook Pro (2011), with no external monitor, no external plug-ins, e.g. nothing fancy, and am getting constant error codes, including this code on a regular basis. And Netflix's response is to switch to another browser instead of fixing the problem.

I've had the same issue with my Macbook Air 2011 and even brought it to Apple's Genius Bar to try to fix it. They couldn't help me because they said it's a Netflix issue, not Apple. When I called Netflix, they told me to call Apple because they don't see the problem coming from Netflix. Basically Apple and Netflix are pointing fingers at each other. I used to watch Netflix from Safari, however since my visit to the Genius Bar, I decided downloading Google Chrome and so far I haven't stumbled upon that problem again. So, I would suggest try to watch Netflix through Chrome instead of Safari. I haven't tried watching it through Firefox, and I don't think I need to, yet. Hope this helps.
