Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Anyone have music skipping with Bose Soundlink On-Ear Headphones?

This isn't an Apple problem but apparently it only affects iOS users (I'm having Android folks tell me there is no issue). I have the new Bose Soundlink On-Ear Bluetooth headphones (well, I HAD them) and when playing my music they would skip periodically. It wasn't all the time but it was annoying enough I had to return them. It was exacerbated by the use of an EQ app, like the excellent Equalizer, but it would happen even with the default music player.

This doesn't happen with any of my other bluetooth devices (not even other headphones) and Bose did confirm they were able to reproduce the problem. But while I've not been able to get any more info from them I did get another user on Amazon to tell me they had the same problem and trying another pair solved the issue.

So I'm asking here if anyone else happened to have this problem AND if trying another pair solved it. No, it won't help me if you tell me you have them and don't have any issues, because your music might not be the same as mine, or some other mystery condition which is causing this may not be present. I need to know if trying another pair is worth the effort (because I like the headphones otherwise). I don't think Amazon will take too kindly to me ordering and returning these multiple times.

Interesting, Bose themselves haven't recommended this, so either it can't be solved with another pair or they are just clueless (because, if they CAN duplicate the problem, you'd think they would have tried it with other pairs just to be sure). I'm not impressed in general with their customer service, and the sound quality isn't as good as some phones (and they certainly are overpriced) but there is no other phone out there that is as comfortable to these ears (and I've tried them all, believe you me -- I think I've auditioned at least two dozen and all of them, over the ear, in the ear, on the ear, just hurt my head after 30 minutes of use).

TIA for any help.

My intended main use is for streaming Netflix while on the treadmill at the gym but I will use them for music whenever possible since its just easier not to have the cords. I am looking for good sound, with good bass, not ridiculous bass. I am still looking at both in-ear and over-ear versions. I am looking in the $150-250 range and realize that limits some options and would prefer to go with one that Dell sells since I have a $200 rewards card to use there. So far I have tried the Bose Soundlink, Powerbeats2, Sol Republic Tracks Air and an Auvio pair from Radio Shack.

Auvio- they were awful as I expected. Heck, they cost $40 on sale so I had to try.

Bose- Lightweight, comfortable, like the controls, love the sound, love the fact that they are on the smaller side for headphones. Obviously having this skipping problem so I don't want to use them for that reason.

Sol Republic- bought on a whim since they were on sale for $150. I really like the sound although not quite as good as Bose. The controls are not as well place or easy to use, they are kind of bulky and heavier than Bose, feel tight on my head and make life seem hotter (warmer) while they are on.

Powerbeats- Really like the sound, impressed with the fit for the most part, the controls are okay although I don't like the "cap" on the charging port. Not impressed with a $200 price tag for in-ear phones. The big thing is the VERY noticeable delay between the audio and video is a deal-breaker. I returned them today without trying updating the firmware so I will probably revisit them in the future if something else doesn't come along that I really like.

I just received the JBL E50BT today and have yet to try them so I'm hoping they might do the trick. Also bought a pair of the JBL Reflect BT in-ear phones to try out.

Also looking into the Sony MDR ZX750BN which Dell still has available. Haven't been able to find them anywhere else to try out yet.

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Well, if you have to stick on Dell your choices are quite limited.

What keeps you away from trying the Plantronics? That would be the very best Headphones in that list (and not only in that list).

I say it even without knowing all those headphones, just because the Plantronics are better than the Bose and better than many if not all other high end BT Headphones which I have tested.

They are quite big. But not heavy anyway. And their fit is much better than that of the E50BT (btw, how did you like them?).

You will not be able to make breakdance with them 🙂 They do not fit so tightly, which is good for the comfort but not if you shake your head vigorously.

They have lot of functions and are really excellent.

They are packed with Aptx Low Latency, for if one day you will have something which can transmit in Aptx Low Latency.

Now, about Latency.

The problem is that if you use the iPhone you have no Aptx.

The SBC codec have a huge latency.

Aptx have a better latency. And Aptx Low Latency an even better one.

To avoid lip sync problem you need a Latency which is less than 40ms. This is what Aptx low Latency gives.

I could not find info about the latency of the AAC codec.

The Plantronics support the AAC anyway, so when you use them with the iPhone the quality should be great. I just never understood if to use the AAC codec you also need to listen to AAC files or what.

If you want to give Aptx to your iPhone:

and

http://www.amazon.com/JayBird-iSport-Bluetooth-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B002PU9U0O/ref= cm_cr_pr_product_top

I think that Creative made a similar one but I cannot find it.

if you end deciding for the Plantronics, and want to watch videos with your tablet, and if your tablet has got no aptx, you can use a dongle like the Sennheiser BTD500 or the Creative BT-D1 (ot the RT-W1 which allows the use of the headset function).

Or you can buy the Avantree Priva or Avantree Saturn Pro. They have Aptx Low Latency and together with the Plantronics it will be the best choise for watching videos with no delay.

I Have just bought a pair of these headphones and am having this issue, it's like a hiccup, not skipping to another song. I am using them with an iPhone 6 with latest update and updated headphones last night. It only seems to do it on music players and not on utube, Amazon instants, bbc iplayer well not that I have noticed anyway. It seemed to be particularly bad on one song which I binned and re downloaded but that may just bey imagination. Anyway it's doing my nut i, it's like waiting for the beep of a smoke alarm with a dud battery. I am going to phone Bose UK on Monday to see what they say. If there is a update coming that can sort it I will hang on to them if not I will be returning them.

PROBLEM SOLVED...at least on my devices. I really hope this helps anyone who's been experiencing this same problem. It's kind of a 'work around' solution to the problem. But for me it got rid of those annoying dropout/clicking sounds.

My Devices: Samsung Galaxy 3 Tablet & iPhone 5s

SOLUTION:

1: Watch a video for about 20-30 seconds, preferably from YouTube - If you have no dropouts/clicking while watching videos then go to step 2.

2: Play music - There should be no dropouts or clicking

3: Problem may return when you disconnect then re-connect headphones from the device. If so, repeat steps 1 & 2

NOTE: If you experience dropouts/clicking while playing videos then this possible solution may not help you and I apologize.

I had the same problem with my Bose Soundlink on-ear Bluetooth Headphones too. It only occurred while using the Bluetooth feature. I can only describe it as a quick dropout or a clicking noise. It would happen about 10-20 times per song (yes i actually counted). It got pretty annoying and I was ready to return the headphones out of frustration. The headphones were updated with the latest software.

I noticed that the dropout/clicking only occurred while playing music, whether it was streamed from my iPhone or played from the memory card on my Samsung Galaxy. However the dropout/clicking did not occur while watching any kind of videos (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)

While trying to figure out the problem I would go back and forth between watching videos and listening to music. I noticed that problem did not occur when I listened to music right after watching videos. After figuring this out, I could close both the video and music apps and reopen the music app and the problem did not occur. I even disconnected then re-connected the headphones from either device, and the problem did not occur. But...sometimes if I kept the headphones disconnected for a lengthy period of time (a couple of days) then the problem came back.

So now every time I want to listen to music and those dropouts/clicking noises return, I will play a YouTube video for about 10-20 seconds usually by watching a music video or something. Then ill listen to music and I have no problems at all. I listened to 10 songs straight on not one single dropout or click. My music played perfectly whether it was streamed or played from a memory card. I'm not a techie and I have no clue about the 'how' or 'why' this solves the problem...it just did for me. I don't know if this is considered a syncing issue.

I really, really hope this helps anyone out there who is having the same problem. In my opinion, the headphones are truly awesome. They sound amazing while connected via Bluetooth and totally worth the price, although the sound quality while connected to my iPhone is way better than it is on my Galaxy tablet. But that's a completely separate issue that's device related. Take care.

I just updated to iOS 8.2, and initially the audio blips/skipping with my bose soundlink on ear was MUCH worse - like unlistenable. stopped more time than it played.

I had to go into bluetooth settings and 'forget this device', and then reconnect to the headphones. This seemed to have fix the issue completely for me. No skipping at all so far in my few hours of tests. all good

I am now on my third pair of Bose over the ear Soundlink headphones.

The "skipping" or 1 second "drop outs" happen both with my iPhone 6 (iOS 8) as well as when connected to my MacBook Pro or Mac Pro (10.10.3). I have kept a spread sheet timing the drop outs, what device I am connected to and where it happens.

When sitting at my desk (which is the only place I really want to use them) the dropouts happen every 7-10 seconds whether connected to the computer or iPhone. That renders them totally dysfunctional. I do have three apple bluetooth keyboards and three apple bluetooth trackpads (I have a lot of computers) as well as my WiFi router, all within a 4 foot radius.

If I go to the extreme other side of the house in the kitchen or my wife's office where there are no other bluetooth devices there were no "skips/dropouts".

If I am in the home theater which is right below my office that has 1 apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, I can go maybe 2 minutes before getting a skip. But it will dropout.

I took them for a 1.5 mile walk around the neighborhood and had a "skip/dropouts" about once every 2-3 minutes. That is totally unacceptable and there is no "excuse" that my other bluetooth devices are interfering. Maybe it's WiFi signals. Either way this is so unlike a Bose product to be so crappy.

When I got the second pair they told me my 1 year warranty restarted. When I had the same problem again I returned to give them back for a refund, but they told me the exchange period was only 30 days and I could not get a refund.

At this point I couldn't even in good conscience sell them to someone on Craigslist. What would I say to the buyer? "They sucked for me, but I'm sure they will be OK for you."

I have owned 4 Bose noise canceling headphones, 4 wired headphones, 2 computer speaker sets, two home theater sets and it's all been great. Now I am disgusted and disappointed with Bose.

Sorry about that -- I know well that frustration (which is why I started the thread in the first place). And, as I posted much later here, I'm fairly sure Bose does not have a solution for this.

So the real only solution is to do what I did and try another maker, because there are a lot of BT devices out there that don't have this problem. I was luckly enough to find a solution which works perfectly for me and I hope you can as well.

As a very general sort of rule, headphones are usually replaced by newer models about once every year or two, and these particular Bose are in need of such a replacement. It wouldn't surprise me at all if sometime late this year, before Christmas, we see a newer version. However, my hope that such a model would work better has dropped from somewhat to doubtful as time has passed.

I spent some time with Bose tech support. He was surprised I was having that much trouble. He didn't think the 3 bluetooth keyboards, 3 trackpads and router should do that, although it is possible. A curious thing he pointed out is that LED lights could interfere. And all I have in my office is 11 Philips HUE LED lights.

But he said, "If I were you, I would get the on-ear which has a newer blue-tooth module."

So I did and they are wonderful! They work perfectly and never skip with the lights, keyboards, trackpads. Usually I don't like on-ear because it pushed the top of my ears against my head and I sweat. These are so light weight they ride perfectly. They sound great. They fold-up into a small case. I can't believe how far I can roam away from the source. I love them. It is the Bose experience as it should be.

I see the over-ears just went on sale 20% off. Perhaps they are clearing them for a model that will work. However, I like the small light-weight of these and I already have QC15 and QC25 over-ear.

I had this issue and found my solution. I have an iMac, a Macbook Pro, a MacBook Air, an iPad and an iPhone 6 Plus and the headphones are connected to all these devices.

While the iMac and the laptops seemed to work fine, they experienced the issues at some point, just not as much.

The iPhone and iPad however seemed to have the skipping and clicking noise much more.

When I checked the iMac, I found that the BT dropdown (top right hand corner) and the list of devices was indicating the iMac was connected to the headphones at the same time i was watching something on the iPad (and it was connected).

So I disconnected the headphones from the other devices using the 'Disconnect' function. Not a single skip from here and they are working perfectly again. Seems a silly thing to miss, and was annoying me immensely but its all good now.

I have had the same issue, using bluetooth and a newer 2015 iMac. It's pretty regular, about every 9-12 seconds. I asked Bose about it a year ago and they sent me a new receiver and it solved the problem for a couple of months.

Solution for me: My headphones have been paired with my iPhone that is in the same room. When I turn off the bluetooth on my iPhone, it completely went away. I think that the headphones were trying to connect to my iPhone while already connected to my iMac.

Good luck
