Bootcamp USB 3 issue

Hi,

I have just bought a Saitek X52 Pro flight stick for FSX and Elite Dangerous which I plan to run under bootcamp with Windows 7 (Home Premium) 64-bit.

Unfortunately the Saitek X52 Pro doesn't like USB 3.0 ports at all, causing Windows to hang if connected during boot up and other weird annoying things. Is it possible to downgrade the USB 3.0 ports to USB 2.0 in Windows running under boot camp? If so how?

Many thanks

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), USB 3.0

I've just got myself a 2013 21.5" iMac with all the trimmings and an X52 Pro in order to play Elite Dangerous too.

Unfortunately I think we may be out of luck. The latest Macs only have USB 3 so there's no way to downgrade the ports. I've tried to fudge the issue by using a powered USB 2 hub, but no luck so far. And before you get any ideas, don't uninstall the USB 3 XHB drivers as then nothing USB will work.

So far the only solution I've heard of is not to use the X52 Pro! Though I hear that the normal X52 is OK.

I'm going to continue to dig around a bit, but I don't hold much hope.

so far I've found the standard Windows driver 6.2.2.0 seems to work, but the joystick needs to be removed for shutdown and reboot. It was when I tried the drivers from the saitek website I had all the problems. I'm sticking with this version until testing within FSX is finished although Windows update has another version I've stopper it automatically updating. at least with this driver the MFD is lit up, problems seem to occur once that light fails to illuminate.

i'll let you know how I get on.

Yes I hear that 6.2.2.0 seems to be the way forward. I don't think I can stand too much more messing with drivers and Windows reboots. So I've just taken my X52 Pro back for a refund. I'm very annoyed as it was a great stick. So until my X52 (non-Pro) arrives in a few days, which hopefully will work a bit better, I'm back to keyboard and mouse.

I hope it continues to work for you! Meanwhile I am pretty angry with Saitek/Mad Cats as they've known about the X52 Pro USB 3 problem for at least 2 years and have seemingly done nothing about it. As more PCs go USB 3 only (Macs already are) they're going to get a lot more unhappy users.

I can confirm the 6.2.2.0 driver works ok in FSX, however the joystick must be disconnected when shutting down or starting up windows. Saitek tried to fob me off with the whole it's not supported on iMac (which it works fine in) or Windows on boot camp. I have replied informing them this is complete rubbish and the problem lies in USB 3.0 support, which a lot of modern PCs have, USB 3.0 is meant to be completely backwards compatible with USB 2.0 therefore the problem is with THEIR latest drivers.

I have also told them they are losing customers because of this since I've seen on a lot of iMac and PC forums returning their joystick because they haven't been able to get them working correctly.

Just thought I'd let my discoveries be known here if people are having the same issues.
