This is the answer. The Xfinity Profile overrides the normal IOS actions on joining WiFi networks.

It causes IOS to PREFER Xfinity WiFi if available!

You could try enabling Ask to Join and see if it works any differently. Also, try turning off WiFi when moving around, to prevent the device hooking onto random networks.

To eliminate the Xfinity profile:

General settings > Profiles

select Xfinity Profile

You cant, it is not yours to disable, just as I can not disable your network you can not disable someone else's. Just forget the network.

The profile does not give the xfinity network any higher priority than the norm. Forgetting it works until the next time the user chooses to use it.

Exactly! That's what I was attempting to say when I was describing how I thought it worked.

With your extensive knowledge of xfinity profiles I assumed that you could point me to some xfinity documentation that describes this feature.

After you delete it you will still need to forget networks that you previously connected with.

I also posted this and they do make the assertion that it will prioritize the xfinity hotspots which a profile can do. I can't find anywhere that someone has parsed the profile.

So, buy something else, something with policies that do not offend you.

Apple has nothing to do with this "feature" at all. It is an Xfinity feature.

Requiring a password to log into it would help, but only partially.
