How do I disable xfinity wifi?

It is simpler than that, the Xfinity hotspots are open (standard 802) networks so anything that connects to a standard network will be able to connect to them, no profile required.

You can just turn "ask to join networks" on and say no when the network asking is an Xfinity hotspot.

Mine also don't, but that is because I don't let them. I do not have an Xfinity profile, but if a connection has previously been made to the Xfinity network (which has not happened) they will remember it and re-connect. I just keep "ask to join networks" switched on.

I understand how open networks work but several of the people in this thread have stated that their device connects to an Xfinity hotspot without logging in which would be different that one just displaying that it is available. I have never automatically joined any hotspot except trusted ones that I have logged onto. So again, how does the iDevice know that one person has Xfinity service and lets them autoconnect to the Xfinity hotspot when mine does not?

According to Comcast connecting without the profile will give you a connection, but only for a limited time (30 minutes I believe) then you have the opportunity of choosing whether you want to pay for it and then you will get a profile. Once you have the profile logging in is not required, and the connection will last for as long as you want it to.

Saw that, over at Xfinity's site right now and visited a Samsung site where users also complain about this so definitely not an Apple thing. They do have a stop doing it process but it assumes you already have connected once and oddly you have to turn off WiFi to do it.

Very interesting. I note that the Xfinity article was written on May 30 2017 -- many months after the original post (Dec 3, 2014)

Sadly the iPhone instructions are not valid for IOS 10.3.3 -- There is no "auto-join" to toggle off. I believe that option WAS available in older versions of IOS. The same is true of the iPad which is running the same version of IOS.

Then you will need to contact Xfinity and see what their current advice is on how to turn this off. As you can see it does not affect just Apple. The article was written after 10.3 was released and 10.3.3 itself mad no changes to the auto-join option, it plugged a major security hole.

If you have a wireless network that you no longer want to see or connect to then remove that network from the list of remembered networks.

I'm not a customer of either Comcast or xFinity and had no clue how they were doing it, but the xfinity popup kept overriding my peferred provider for wi fi. I was having to manually deselect it and then choose my regular connection. So effing annoying -thanks for the tip.

The Mavericks option worked for me on El Capitan. I simply deleted the wifi network, which was OK b/c my computer is connected by Ethernet.

Stupid question maybe, but why do you have wifi turned on if you use ethernet?
