Data/Wifi Stops working unless Reset Iphone6

Hi,

So this problem only started occuring a couple days ago. So after an undetermined amount of time of being on, the phone's wifi/data (situation happens with both) will stop working. I'll eventually realize that none of my messages in iMessage are going through or that instagram has not updated its feed in over an hour. I'll restart the phone and everything will work for another 30 minutes or so before everything stops working again.

Any fix to this?

On verizon btw.

iOS 9 won't fix it because the problem is not iOS 8. No matter what issue you have, with 900 million iOS devices in use you will find discussion threads about virtually any problem you can imagine. Not only with iPhones; you can find plenty of threads in a google search about alien abductions also. Probably more than about your issue.

I do understand it can be frustrating, but you have just mentioned a couple of possibilities. Have you tried rebooting your router, and updating its firmware?

I have had this problem since the iphone 6+ first came out. I believe that was IOS 8. In fact I had this problem on an iPhone 5 which is what I used prior to getting the 6.

Its getting out of hand. The iphone 6 wifi/lte driver stack is unrefined and unpolished. Right now I can't connect to anything. What I will notice is that sometimes it happens when I am in my driveway leaving for work. What happens is I fire up a music app like Pandora or Apple Music and I have connection issues. I end up playing music from my phone library and then I fire up Waze. I get driving directions but the infamos "connecting to network" red text at the top along with no ETA. Today I even had a pop up to log into iTunes store for no reason at all (I was driving so quickly hit cancel).

It's almost like it doesn't work properly when switching from Wifi to LTE, which it should be able to do. It gets stuck in some kind of limbo state where it just will not connect to anything. I've done things like cycle airplane mode, cycle LTE data, wifi off and on, etc... It won't come back until you reboot the phone. My Windows 10 PC that is hardware more than 4 years old boots faster than IOS on an iPhone. No one wants to waste time rebooting the phone.

I have the latest IOS 8.4 and there are no further updates so its not like I can even do anything about this problem.

You have to understand how frustrating it is. It didn't start happening until IOS 8. Sure it could be my phone but a google search yielded a whole bunch of discussion threads on this very issue, and I just so happened to find this thread and post to it more as a "me too" yes it happens to me.

Who knows what it could be... an ios8 issue. The physics of my home wifi and driveway proximity (maybe its teetering between wifi and lte because I'm on the very edge of the wifi). I can tell you that sometimes to get any music from streaming audio apps at all, sometimes I have to disable wifi at home. Or even at work because as I drive around the building to leave work its grasping for that in building work wifi that our MDM software puts us in.

I guess all I can do right now is wait until ios 9 drops and see if its better. If not then I can think about all the various resets involved or wiping the device.

Lawrence, I have not done anything with my routers firmware in awhile so thats a good place to start. I also have been contemplating re-positioning the router in the home. I do reboot the router occasionally because the internet will stall on wifi and I find myself turning Wifi off and getting better performance on LTE (25-30mbps speedtests). When my wifi is working fine I can get what I pay for (30/3 Mbps) but sometimes it falls back to 5-10 mbps on wifi, and 30/3 on hardwired (my PC).

Its a Linksys e2000 running dd-wrt. I have a spare netgear for a backup running a newer version of dd-wrt, but its not 5 GHz. I am thinking of running both, one on 5 GHz and one on 2.4 GHz, since neither are dual band. I realize I have a lot of things to experiment with, I am just grasping at straws here. I have an iPad2 but that doesn't leave the house like the iPhone so its always within range.

Hi,

I just wanted to point out that since updating to IOS 9 (then 9.0.1, and today 9.0.2) I have not experienced this issue.

I think I need to thank the Wifi Assist feature for this. Wifi Assist is a godsend! I no longer lose out to data services just by driving and inadvertently hitting xfinitywifi access points, or even driving away from my house. I think this constant bouncing around caused the phone to be confused in the first place. Wifi Assist seems to prefer LTE when wifi coverage is spotty, so the phone stays connected and things have not hung up yet.
