Will the Kingston HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset microphone work with a mid-2010 Mac Mini?
I've been looking around for different headsets, and this one caught my eye. However, I'm not sure if the microphone is compatible. Thank you.

Does Kingston say it will work with with your OSX version?
I've looked around quite a bit, and Kingston is pretty vague. The official website http://www.kingston.com/us/hyperx/cloud says it's compatible with desktops, but it doesn't say more than that. I know my current headset doesn't work on my mac mini because it doesn't have the correct audio input level, and I'd hate to purchase the HyperX only to find out it doesn't work either.
Reading the manual

you should be able to use the adopter in fig 1-6 and connect the assembly to the speaker/headphone port on the Mini
Could you explain to the complete layman what the difference is between using the splitter cable and just plugging the audio output and input cables directly into the computer? Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
The mic input on the Mini requires an amplified (line level) input. However, The specs for the headset says the mic does not provide that high of a level. It also say it will work an iPhone with the splitter. The splitter combines the two headphones and one mic into one 3.5 mm plug so the a device will see it like normal iPhone/iPod combined headphones/mic/remote.
Okay. So, to sum it up, the headset and mic will work as intended for a desktop, but I'll just have to keep the adapter handy?
You have to use the adopter to use the mic and headphones with the Mini. You plug the adopter into the headphone jack.
Perfect. Thank you so much for your time, sir!
