I have a number of jpgs that I saved on a thumb drive when I was using a Windows machine. Now, I'm exclusively Mac, and my computers won't read these jpgs. Is there a way to get a Mac to open up these files or am I out of luck?

JPG is a universal format. It is not OS specific. What happens when you try to open them? Its possible they became corrupted.
Are you sure they are jpeg, and not png or something else?
There is no such thing as a Windows and OS X jpg, the likely culprit is the thumb drive. Please move them to another drive or simply email them via the windows box to the iMac.
They are jpg files. They will open up on a Windows machine but not on my Mac. I double-clicked and preview wouldn't open them up. I've been emailing them to myself which is a pretty tedious process. Can't imagine what's wrong. Thumb drive works fine on the Windows machine.

Get yourself another thumb drive and test with that, or simply turn on file- sharing on the two machines and as long as they are on the same network you can get rid of the thumb drive all together.
