Imac crashes every time I connect my Nikon D600

Just paid $400.00 - $200 was to extend the warranty - to the local mac distributor because my iMac has been crashing - lost a bout 3 weeks worth of choice photos. Turned out it was a cable from the hard drives (fusion 3T) to the CPU and now I get it back and every time I connect my Nikon d600 it crashes. I took the SD chip out of the camera and was able to download my photos but only got jpeg - no raw. I change the setting so fast now I am not sure if that is an error on my part or if there is some other glitch happening. I have the camera set now for both jpeg(fine) and raw now so I will be doing a shoot tomorrow to check that. But what would be causing the iMac to crash?? Its a late 2013 iMac - core i5 3.2 GHz,256 cash and 16 GB memory

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Fusion drive - 3T, 16GB memory,

Hi - Thanks for responding - Yes the iMac crashes and the crash is directly related to connecting my Nikon d600 by cable.

To me that looks like it's hardware related, possibly ram. Is that 16gb of ram directly from Apple or did you or a reseller upgrade it?

You might try disconnecting those two WD external drives and then connecting the d600.

Othat ther than an SMC and PRAM reset I don't know what else to suggest.

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support

OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM

IPit seems pretty reproducible so a trip to the nearest Apple Store or AASP might be in order. Take the d600 with you.

Just paid $400.00 - $200 was to extend the warranty - to the local mac distributor

Out of curiosity: Applecare for an iMac is retail priced at $169.00 in the US - so what kind of warranty did you buy? Don't know when you purchased yours, but Applecare needs to be purchased and registered with Apple within 364 days from date of purchase.

Secondly, if there is a problem with the machine since you got it back from the repair, then I'd address it with them as that should be covered.

I probably should have isolated and kept to the point. The raw files issue is irrelevant but my D600 crashes this computer when plugging the camera in directly. I took the camera in to the shop - it did not crash their computer. They want me to bring it in for a diagnostic but last time it was there they had almost 2 months - pitiful. I am inputting my raw files - about 10 at a time otherwise the friggen thing crashes - major pain in the butt when I get back with a 300 pic shoot -

You never answered my question regarding the ram. Did you buy the computer from Apple, not a reseller, and did you get it with 16gb of ram? Or did you or possibly a reseller upgrade the ram? That model only came with 8gb of ram unless you ordered it with more.

Like I said earlier it looks to be hardware related, a return trip may be necessary.

Sorry - I got in quite late last night and somehow missed this post - I disconnected all drives including the printer, connected the d600 and the iMac crashed again. It auto rebooted and I disconnected the d600 so it could reboot, I did not get a prompt this time to show the crash data so I am looking at the Console and there is sever hundred lines about this reboot but they do not mean much to me. I will keep looking for the kernel crash info.
