Preferences error: Could not load preference pane

Many times, when I attempt to load a Preference Pane, I receive the error message: "Preferences Error: Could not load [X] preference pane.” Clicking “OK” and reopening the preference pane succeeds.

Does anyone know what's going on here? I upgraded to Yosemite from a Snow Leopard installation, which I assume is part of the problem.

Using OS X 10.10.1, 2008 iMac

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

there is no such item in /System/Library/Extensions, a Spotlight search with System files included shows nothing, and I haven't used Palm for years. ***?

Since it's not loaded it's of no consequence if it's actually there, other than using a few microseconds in trying to load it at startup.

Spotlight is famous for not finding things. Try EasyFind or Find Any File.

The file may not be named that. EtreCheck prints the label, not the file name. I strongly discourage anyone from manually deleting any of these files. The only safe way to uninstall anything is with with the vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions.

An extension like this wouldn't be loaded until you plugged in a Palm device. You can safely ignore it unless you intended to attach a Palm device via USB.
