Q: Dell P2715Q for 2013 Mac Pro.

The new Dell P2715Q 4K monitor looks to be a technically compatible monitor for the new Mac Pro.  I see it supports DP 1.2 and MST.

Anyone using this monitor and and vouch for its use.

Thanks.

Searching the forums only showed that that someone was considering that monitor

Re: Dual 4k support for MacBook Pro Mid 2014

    The above does include:

I've connected two (2) of these Dell P2815Q displays at 3840x2160@30Hz (DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort). I'm very happy with the results.

I have the Dell UP2414Q and it work fine.

I just got a P2715Q for my Mac Pro 4,1 and Sapphire 7950. The display is beautiful but the problems are not. Most of my problems seem to stem from the 7950 and other people are having better luck than me.

Unless you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, I'd wait until all the answers are in. Mine might be going back for a refund. There's a good thread with lots of input over at MacRumors if you want more info.

I just got two P2715Q's for use with my nMP 6,1.

The image quality is amazing.  I'm running right now at the "looks like 2550x1440" scaled resolution, and as far as my eyes can tell, it's retina quality (even though I know the PPI isn't as high as the 5K iMac, after using these, I don't think it matters!).

There are some issues.  First, when the system is booting up, the displays don't light up at all.  That means I either have to type my FileVault password in blindly, or turn my TV on (my Mac Pro has an HDMI run to my home theater).

Second, after a reboot, OS X (Yosemite) doesn't seem to remember my monitor arrangement or resolution settings, and a few times I had to turn off one of the monitors and turn it back on to get it to sync up correctly.

I'm hoping these can be resolved with software updates.  Fortunately, I leave my machine on 99% of the time and don't reboot unless I need to.

The image quality is so much better than my dual Thunderbolt displays that I'm willing to live with these glitches for now.

Do you know what refresh rate you're running at? 30 or 60?

    They are running at 60Hz.

I also tried the display on my Late-2013 15" Retina MBP with HDMI, and that worked nicely, but at 30Hz.  The difference was very noticeable.  I didn't feel like disconnecting everything to try mDP port.

    Perfect answer

How about the viewing angles? Fairly decent for Video and Photo editing?

Seem great to me.  They are IPS panels.

I calibrated them using a ColorMunki.  Lightroom looks amazing!

so I just got this monitor with and have a late 2013 mac pro w/ the D300 video cards and in SST mode w/ 10.10.2 it seems to occasionally flicker.  I'm trying MST mode now.  Its definitely a OSX issue since it doesn't occur in bootcamp   I've logged radar: 20192671

No issue at all on five different late 2013 mac pros using dell p2715q. Works just fine no flickering.

    Hi,

I just setup a pair of these P2715Q monitors with my 2013 MacPro using the supplied MiniDisplayPort to Displayport cables. The screens look fantastic. The main issue I'm having is after restarting or cold starting the computer. Both monitors appear and only show a blank desktop. No menu bar, no Finder icons, etc.

The only fix so far is to power off one of the monitors - then back on. Then all is fine. I've unchecked the Mission Control thing to allow displays to have separate spaces. On a normal startup - the second monitor is usually just a blank desktop. It's like they are both showing that blank desktop.

You mentioned you were having similar issues. Any other resolution to this?

I ordered a pair of minidisplayport to minidisplayport adaptors to try - incase the rub is with the included cable configuration. I've tried resetting PRAM, NVRAM, etc. - Tried different thunderbolt ports.

Actually  - when trying different thunderbolt ports - things got wonky in that the second monitor stopped being acknowledged by the computer. I kept moving the thunderbolt cable around - then it finally came back on. Not fun.

Another strange issue yesterday was when I sat down to work - both monitors were in sleep mode (computer still running though) - the primary monitor wouldn't activate. Even after a restart. I couldn't even power cycle the monitor with the power button. I ultimately had to pull the power cord on the monitor to get it back. Again... not fun.

One thing to note as well - My primary monitor is Rev 01... the secondary was built 2 months earlier and shows Rev. 00. I'm waiting for them to replace the second monitor. These guys update the firmware and other items and never tell anyone what's changed. But I sure want the most current build.

    Any thoughts? - I'm running 10.10.2.

    Thanks,

    Sam

I have exactly the same problem. The monitor is flickering frequently > this is very annoying and exhausting for the eyes. I exchanged the monitor because I thought it is a warranty case. But with the new monitor I have exactly the same problems. I use also a Mac Pro late 2013.

@ thehesiod: Did you found a solution to prevent the flicker?

    Hi Sam,

Same problems here... running Yosemite 10.10.5. .. I have 2 UP2715Q plugged to my MacPro (AMD FirePro D500)... using only 1 mDP.

Have you tried to turn Sleep Mode off on both displays, and in System Preferences > Energy Saver too?

Maybe we should return to the old school way to turn on a computer... first the display then the CPU... lol!
