App store not downloading at 10.6.8

Hi,

I installed 10.6.4 and then updated it to 10.6.8 - the app store would not download any apps - this applies to the purchased apps, as well as new ones etc. After I press the download or install button nothing happens - no error notifications etc... the computer and the App Store app does not freeze I have tried following options, but none of those helped helped:

- Clicked on the "Reload Page" in the App Store

- reset payment detail and address in the account settings

- checked for unfinished downloads in the App Store - it says all purchased apps are downloaded...

- signed out and signed in the App Store app

- tried to switch from my App Store - which is German - to the US store and then back...

- installed the 10.6.8 combo update.

- removed the App Store app and then did the 10.6.8 combo update

- reset the memory (when you hold the option+apple button+P+R while restarting the computer)

- installed the Java updates as well as iTunes updates

- erased the partition and reinstalled the 10.6.4, then tried 10.6.6 combo, 10.6.7 combo and as I said 10.6.8 combo updates - every time trying out the app store with every single version

- tried to upgrade to Yosemite via the "updates" section in the Mac App Store, but nothing happens after I press the download button either

My Mac 21,5" is iMac11,2 Intel Core i3 3.06 GHz 4 GB

My goal is actually to download the Lion (or Maverics) from the App Store and install it - I purchased it a while ago and then upgraded to Maverics and recently to Yosemite - the later made me unhappy and I cleaned my Mac, erased the partition and installed the 10.6.4 from the OS X install CD which came with my Mac.

All the apps I ever purchased are listed in the "Purchases" section of the App Store, including the Lion and Maverics, so the App Store works as such, but as I described it would not let me download anything....

When you download 10.6.8, there are still some additional software updates that need to be made, particularly Safari. The mac app store is just an app client that uses safari to download of your content in the background. Make sure to update your Safari to the latest version your OS allows, you can do this by going to Software updates under the Apple icon on the left hand corner of your top toolbar and selecting "Show Details" after it finds that updates are needed. Select just Safari from the drop down menu. Your computer will prompt the download and restart. Boot up the app store after that and it should work :)

There was some odd stuff happening with the App Store last night. It doesn't seem to just be a Snow Leopard issue, because I was trying to get some updates for a 2012 Mini running Mountain Lion and Mavericks. In the App Store in Mountain Lion, I kept getting asked for my password even after being logged in, then getting error messages when I entered the password. Clicking on update buttons often just resulted in a greyed-out button and no action. I booted from the Mavericks partition and got those updates OK. Went back to Mountain Lion after that and got some of the updates installed.

Was on with tech support for 2 hours yesterday about this.

It is an Apple server issue.

They are aware.

They are working on it.

They are ruining my mellow vibe completely.

SOOOOOOoooooooo

Stop rebuilding your machines.

Put up some Christmas lights or whatever it is you do.

Then every few hours re-try to download a free or purchased app.

If they don't fix it by Monday we can have a revolt then.

Step away from your computers,..

Happy Holidays.. :-)

If Apples servers are located in California - even if they are not in the heavy rain/flood/mudslide zone - their communications would be affected by surrounding areas without power, or water in underground wiring access.

Have noted that with the fires and now the weather - that even this apple site which may also be in California - sometimes has problems.

It is why I don't panic when mac.mail doesn't sync or connect - I just wait a few hours.

Perhaps with all the problems Apple store has - when it comes to software they should consider an option to have an order sent on media -- based on some of the download problems people are having - it would cut down on frustration.

Sorry to hear about your issue. You are not alone! I too are unable to download ANYTHING from the App Store. I was told by Apple Support that there is a server error and they are working on it, however, there is no estimated time of repair. I was only told to keep trying, but I am becoming very frustrated as I desperately need to get back to Yosemite in order to restore my machine after a hard disk problem.

yeah, server error - why wouldn't they send us direct web link to the yosemite or at least a lion, especially if we purchased those for money a while ago...

By the way - I am really enjoying the 10.6 after being on maverics and yosemite for a long time - the 10.6 is FLYING on my computer like the day I purchased it in 2011. I know this is fresh installed and there is not trash in cash etc yet, but look how fast it is - screw yosemite!!

The direct URL would be the same server & if when you call software support you get routed to the nearest Apple store - the person you speak to may just know there is a problem with the servers and not what it is.

Simple explanation -- If the App store servers are in California - Silicon Valley - any communications will disrupted by the heavy rain/flooding/mud slides now going on - just as they were in the summer with the fires. Add other storms across the country and you may be lucky if you get a bad connection

Hi there, same identical problem over here. Italy 1:24 am on Dec 16th. Had to erase my HD due to unrecoverable bad file; install 10.6.6 upgraded to 10.6.8. Have both Lion and Mountain Lion in my purchase area. Both are labelled as download, I click them they grey out and nothing happens. This is for the OSs and for any other piece of software in my purchase account. I believe that it really might be a problem Apple has with the 10.6's OS as everything is fine with another unit I have working with Maverick. I go to bed. Bye
