How do I autosum cells which are in cells in a different column

Click the cell where you want your total to be placed, then type =, then drag over the cells you want to be summed:

This automatically pops the SUM function into the beginning of the formula.

Hi Jonathan,

Once you highlight your cells-to-be-summed, take a look along the bottom of your window. You will see lozenges with "SUM", AVERAGE", "MIN", "MAX", etc. and numbers following. Drag the SUM lozenge to where you want it and you are done.

If you look further to the right along the bottom you will see a gear shape that wil allow you to edit which functions are available here.

I am wondering if we are not understanding your problem. It appears to be as simple if not simpler to do it in Numbers .

As I understand the Excel AutoSum operation,

1. Click the cell where you want the SUM
2. Click on the sum icon on the ribbon/toolbar
3. Adjust/select the range (unless you are summing the rows above, in which case it got it correct).

Or

1. Select the cells you want to sum
2. Click the sum icon and the SUM appears at the bottom or right of the range selected. If two or more columns of data were selected,each column gets its own sum,

In Numbers,

1. Type an = in the cell where you want the sum
2. Select the range of cells to sum and it creates the SUM formula.

Or

1. Select the cells you want to sum
2. Drag the sum from the bubble at the bottom of the window to where you want it in your table.
