Breakout box

Does anyone know of a inexpensive HDV/SD capture/output external breakout box to be used with a Mac Book Pro?

Thank you for the help. I thought if I captured through the component, I would get better video, but since it is all compressed anyway, I should just save the money and continue to capture with firewire.

I have both HDV. I don't know what level 4 means, but thanks to everyone for helping.

What cards have you tried ?

Is there an option to add PCIe cards ?
Or is just for pci & pciX cards, at the moment ?

Any gotchas or conflicts you've found ?

magma boxes are solid.

when i run across them, there's usually sdi and analog component/composite cards installed, couldn't tell you the brand as i never have time to look.

the only gotchas i've experienced with these things are the horrible IBM thinkpads that fox, espn and the networks ship around that operate their usually unreliable scorebug software.

magma's are one of those infrequent products in life that actually work better than advertised. shoot me an email and i'll try to answer your questions as best as i can.
