Shutter Button Problem with telescoping selfie monopod on iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2

Guys I have this weird problem with one of those selfie monopods which you can use to record a picture or video of yourself with the phone being further from you than your arm will allow. Anyway, I got one with a wired connection that basically connects to the phone's headphone jack and on the base of the monopod there is a button that activates the shutter. When I first plugged in my iPhone 6, it worked like a charm. It activated the shutter though for video there was no sound. Then no less than 30 minutes later, I tried using it again, did everything exactly the same, nothing changed, but this time, I get no response from the shutter button on the monopod handle! The wire is firmly in the iPhone's headphone jack yet ZERO response.

So I tried it with my iPhone 5. It works perfectly! I plugged the shutter wire in, unplugged it, tried again several times and 100% it works flawlessly.

I switch back to the iPhone 6, and NOTHING. Both iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 have same iOS version.

Any ideas?

Here's what I discovered. I have a hard plastic case around my Iphone 5S, and could not get the selfie stick shutter to work trying all the remedies others have suggested in this thread. I simply removed the case, put the phone back on the selfie stick holder, and plugged in the phone jack. Problem solved! Apparently the case was not allowing the jack to fully seat in the receptacle.

I have the same problem. It worked the first time, then I unhooked it, tried again and it failed. Any ideas?

Stick works totally fine on other, older iDevices. Also the Apple headphones still work to take photos so it seems there is nothing wrong with a setting or with the device.

I had same problem but I noticed that you cant't have any other app open. If you have Spotify open it uses stick plug as headphone and "runs over" camera button.

i had the same problem since ios 9 or idk i havent used it for a while now ive ios 10 wasnt working aswell. had a chat with the support devision. they said to me to do a reset of all settings so i did. its **** cause you have to do all your mobile web settings and wife etc but hey it worked. now i can take selfies again haha 🙂

hopefully it works for you guys aswell

In my case it was dust in the headphone jack. I cleaned it thoroughly with a toothpick and the problem was solved.
