Messages show up on my mac but not my iPhone 5s - Help??

I've recently bought a macbook pro and I linked it up with my iMessages from my iPhone 5s and everything was working til now.

For the past week maybe 2 weeks my messages have been playing up. I'll send an iMessage from my phone and then ill go off the app then back on again and it doesn't show up. Or ill send it and the app shuts down and when i go back on it its not there.

But if i look on my mac the messages are there. I also sometimes don't receive any messages on my phone either but they're on my mac.

Sometimes when i get a message i don't get a notification. Theres no sound, no banner or no red circle on the app.

I message my friend from both my mac and my phone and when i was on her chat on my phone kept making a noise as if i was getting new texts from her but i wasn't and it kept making the noise over and over again until i went off the app.

Ive tried resetting my phone, turning it off and on, turning iMessage off then on again, linking and unlinking iMessage to my mac. I don't know what else to do.

Please help me its driving me insane! Im worried someones going to urgently need me and i wont get their texts.

I know this was long but please help.

Thank you.

Ralph,

First off, let me say thanks for persevering in trying to solve other peoples problems.

Second, am I correct in assuming your solution applies to cases where the ghosted phone number iniMessage setup is unchecked? Because mine is checked and correct but I'm recently receiving (since 9.3 update) some texts only on my mac and not on my phone. So, before I embark on the multifaceted and complicated recommendations of yours, I have to ask if they apply.

I have never understood why apple makes updating OS so painful and awkward and pointlessly asking once again for login and password and I'm sorry, but apple has really gone off into the weeds now. It used to plug it in and use it, now setup is more complicated, confusing and pointless than any PC I've administered (sorry for the rant.)

FYI, for now, I have simply removed the appleID from the iMessage setup and now I get them on my phone, who the heck needs phone MMS or iMessage on the computer anyway. Overkill.

I actually don't like iMessage any way. It's only work on Apple products, defaults to using data on your phone plan for all messages and is buggy as all get out.

Hi,

This Thread tends to demonstrate that the cause can be anything.

If the Apple ID in use is the iCloud one then any issues with the iCloud ID will be transferred to iMessages.

Generally speaking though the iMessages are separate and the issue is only seen in iMessages.

IF you are only seeing the SMS Messages or only iMessages ones then it is best to check all settings.

Manually and physically check them, don't dismiss something on the basis of what you think is set. (Twice I have had an issue where on the iPhone the Send and Receive section for Messages has had the iPhone Number unticked even though the user cannot change it - you have to reset the whole of Messages on the iPhone at this point)

I'm a tech nerd and a former coder, and I think of myself as moderately smart, but I don't understand the advice given either. It makes no sense.

Sadly, the only way I've gotten this to work is to TURN OFF iMessage on the Mac. Period. And after EVERY update, turn it off again.

Someday Apple will have full text sync between devices. But with the way they've been going in terms of design and complexity, I don't think it will be any day soon. Love my mac, loved my macs since 1985 (not kidding) and Apple IIE before that, hate Windows, but iMessage really stinks.
