You missed the point.
a Carrier unlocked Verizon iPhone will work with a GSM sim from AT&T. The reverse is not true.
To expand on lizdance40's reply, the Verizon phone is CDMA-capable, the AT&T and T-Mobile are not. Other than that difference, they all have the same bands. Thus AT&T and T-Mobile phones are restricted to GSM...the Verizon phone is not.

Just to clarify, this is true for the Verizon 5, 5c, 5s, 6, and 6 Plus. It is NOT true for the 4S, which Verizon will only unlock for non US carriers, or the Verizon iPhone 4, which is CDMA only and does not contain a GSM radio (or a SIM slot).
I Purchased a No Commitment/Contract Verizon 6+ 64gb(space grey) last night from the apple store in Manhattan Beach CA. It is available as a Non contract phone if purchased directly from the apple store at full retail. I intend to use my att sim with this phone. The apple rep was kind enough to even throw in a free at&t nano sim. 🙂
The rep informed me that any iPhone 6/6+ (at&t, T-mobile, Verizon) purchased at full retail price is essentially an unlocked phone even though they advertise T-mobile as the only available option online. I obviously chose verizon for the various reasons being discussed on this thread.
Thanks for the info. Santa already has my T-Mobile 64GB space grey iPhone 6 wrapped and awaiting a trip down the chimney. After Christmas, I'll take it to our local Apple store (before January 8) and exchange it for the Verizon model. I can then pop in my wife's AT&T SIM at the store, just to be sure it works with AT&T. This thread has provided very helpful info...too bad it is not readily available on Apple's website!
ok I bought a 6 plus from Verizon as my iphone 5's 2 yr agreement ended . I listed the iphone 5 on craigslist and sold it to a guy who then right of way stuck in his T-Mobile sim card in it and called my number with no problem , the thing with that is it might not have the same LTE speed as Verizon , who knows .
