Selected movie won't play on your display - HDCP

Hi everyone,

On my MacBook Air, playing a movie on iTunes stopped working for me even though it had worked previously.

Whenever I started a movie in iTunes, and tried to play it, I received the following error message:

The selected movie won't play on your Display. This movie can only be played on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)

I couldn't understand what had changed, since I had played movies on my MacBook Air with no problems.

I made sure my operating system (Yosemite 10.10.1) and iTunes (12.0.1.26) were up to date.

I found a number of suggestions including this thread (selected movie won't play)

Several of the suggestions did not work for me. But one did.

- Use Spotlight (Cmd-Space or click the magnifying glass in the top right) to find "DisplayLink Uninstall"

- Launch DisplayLink Uninstall to uninstall that program

- Restart your computer.

Worked like a charm.

Good luck.

The original solution was described as follows

"None of the suggestions worked for me as I could no longer play movies in iTunes on my MacBook Pro nor iMac 27" ... Apple support had me remove a package called DisplayLink. Goto upper right hand corner and click spyglass and type "display" ... I saw "DisplayLink Uninstall" and double clicked that to remove it ... After a reboot, I was able to play my iTunes Movies. This package is installed in one of two ways: 1) A Dell monitor 2) A software package that enables sharing your screen. Either way I had both of these items and this package was installed as a result."

Thank you so much! This worked like a charm. The problem is I'll have to install the DisplayLink software any time I want to use that display.
