RAM iphone 5s ios 8.1.2

I hope you guys can help me out.

Last week, I bought an Iphone 5s 64gb, and I updated to ios 8.1.2.

After turning it on after a restore and without installing anything, no apps, music, didn't opened safari, I decided to download Battery Doctor.

I was freaked out because Memory Usage (RAM) was showing 70-77% used (which left only 200mb of free ram)

I boosted it, and it went from 200mb free to 700mb free. But simply I closed the app and re-opened it, it was again 70-77% of memory ram usage.

Does my IPhone have a memory ram issue or is it working as expected?

On my iphone 5, running ios 7.1.2, usually there's 300-400mb of ram used and plenty of free ram

I don't know what's hapenning.

Thank you!

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.2, null

Is there something wrong with the way your phone is actually performing? If not, don't worry about it. I find that Battery Doctor, by providing information without context, frequently cause people far more anxiety than is necessary.

But on my iphone 5, when I boosted RAM, after closing and re-opening the app, it would still be low use.

Now, with the Iphone 5S, there's only 200mb free when I'm literally doing nothing except using Battery Doctor.

So, you're saying that is perfectly normal for the iphone 5s to have such low available RAM, when there's nothing on the background?

On ios 7, I had plenty of free RAM.

As Meg St._Clair says above, don't worry about it. As long as you device is running fine, there should not be a need for these types of memory clearing apps. The few times I have found it useful however was when running a large, memory intensive app on a device with lower system RAM like the iPad mini 1st gen with 512 MB of system RAM. Clearing out the memory using Battery Doctor did seem to resolve frequent crashing. The newer devices have 1 GB of system RAM (iPad Air 2 has 2 GB) and these devices are usually not prone to these types of crashes.

Enjoy your device and don't sweat the little details. 🙂

Actually, just a few lags and ocasional freezing screen. But I'm just worried, comparing both the 5 and 5s and the huge difference between their free RAM (it makes me think that either iphone 5 has a better otimization system or the ios 7 is more fluid)

The thing is, with only 200mb of free RAM, I can't open 3 apps and 3 safari pages because it's very likely the iphone will "collapse"

SergZak, I understand that ios devices have an otimization system, but why there's such a difference between iphone 5's free RAM (on ios 7.1.2) and iphone 5s free RAM? Also, isn't there a change that, with low RAM available, it will start to shut down the apps?

Is your iphone running ios 8? I just think it ***** to have low RAM, coming from another idevice with plenty of available

I ran iOS 8.1.1 on my iPhone 5S. It ran perfectly. I never removed apps from the recents list. Most of what you think of as "open" apps are not doing anything; they are suspended. I never had a problem with Safari. When you say the phone is likely to "collapse", do you mean yours is actually crashing? Or that you are afraid it will based on these memory statistics?

Did you read the article I linked to?

I have an iPhone 5 currently running iOS 8.1.2

Let me tell you a bit more about these memory cleaning apps...you can't really trust any one of them to any degree of accuracy. I have had quite a few of these apps and they ALL reported different amounts of free RAM available to the system, both before and after the RAM was cleared. There are even many of these apps that do not necessarily clean out any RAM at all, they merely report available system RAM...even these can vary greatly with discrepancies of a 100 MB or more. And depending on what devices you run the apps on, there will be differences as well.

Apple has recently been pulling these memory cleaning apps from the App Store...seems the ones that are single-function (clearing/cleaning memory only) are the ones that are being pulled more aggressively while those that are multi-function (like Battery Doctor) are still allowed.

Yes, I did read it. Sorry taking a while to answer.

First, answering your question "Or that you are afraid it will based on these memory statistics?" Yes,that is it.I was afraid due to memory statistics.

"high RAM usage means your RAM is being put to good use" =D

So Meg, this article kind of erased that idea in my head that low RAM available is a bad thing. If the device is working fine, than it means that RAM is being used and optimizing the iphone, correct?

Now, what I don't get is why on ios 7.1.2, there was plenty of free RAM while on ios 8 there's almost nothing. Does it mean that the iphone 5 on ios 7 wasn't optimazed at its best, differently from ios 8 on my iphone 5S?

And, just for me able to sleep well at night, would you mind installing Battery Doctor on your iphone 5S, and let me know of the numbers (memory use)? =)

Thank you!

Yes that is true.

Battery Doctor shows about 220mb free RAM, while System Activity Monitor shows about 190mb free (not so different).(On iphone 5 BD shows 555mb while SAM 640mb)

But what I still don't get is why both apps show large amount of free RAM on my Iphone 5 (ios 7.1.2) while they show little RAM available on iphone 5S (IOS8.1.2).

When you open Battery Doctor on your Iphone 5, running ios 8.1.2, what is said about memory usage?

Here's a print from System Activity Monitor from 5S (funny, but my 5 has more total memory 1016mb)...tel me what do you think. (just this app was running when I took the print)

I want to thank you and Meg for being so kind and patient with me!

Thank you very much you guys!!

Under Battery Doctor (v2.4) immediately after freeing memory, 33% memory is used, 680 MB are free.

SYS Activity Manager (no, not the same as System Activity Monitor that you mentioned above) , immediately after running Battery Doctor, clearing RAM, then shutting down Battery Doctor shows ~451 MB free

Immediately after running Battery Doctor, clearing RAM, then shutting down Battery Doctor, System Activity Monitor (free) shows my total memory: 1016 MB, Free memory at ~712 MB

Why the differences between the iPhone 5 & iPhone 5S? I really do not know.
