Does Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter output sound?

I don't think the DVI standard carries sound, so while Mini DisplayPort can handle audio, DVI probably won't carry it any further.

Does your TV have an unused HDMI port? MacBook Pros after a certain version do send audio out of Mini DisplayPort and the audio can be carried through HDMI to a TV or receiver. HDMI would be preferred over DVI for this reason, unless your MacBook Pro is too old. If it is, then with either type of connection you would need a separate audio cable connecting the audio-out on the MacBook Pro to an audio-in on the TV.

No, DVI does NOT transmit audio. You will have to tap the audio output port for sound.

That cable should work, as long as your MacBook Pro is listed as audio-capable in the link in my previous post.

It will work. 2010 and newer MBPs transmit audio from the minidisplay and or /thunderbolt ports.
