Hi,

I just got an iPhone 6 Plus(iOS 8.1). The Touch ID sometimes work and sometimes don't.

So what should I do now?

Thanks.

I just found something really weird.

Each time I let my iPhone 6 Plus run out of battery and shut down automatically. Then charge the phone to 100%. My Touch ID stops recognizing my fingerprint. After rebooting, and a few login to my iPhone 6 Plus, the Touch ID works fine for awhile(but at most for a week).

Quoted from Apple Support: "The Touch ID will continue to learn and improve recognition of your fingerprint".

So is my Touch ID reading records deleted each time my iPhone 6 Plus' battery runs out?

Thanks.

Ed

I purchased an iPhone 6 Plus from Apple Online Store(Asia-Taiwan).

The iPhone 6 Plus I got had many problems(hardware, software).

I returned the iPhone and got a new one.

But all iPhone 6 Plus' they sent me have different problems. The 3rd iPhone 6 Plus has TOUCH ID problems.

I contacted the "Apple Customer Service(Asia-Taiwan)" and spoke to a Customer Service Rept.

The Apple Online Store(Asia-Taiwan)'s policy is that you can return or get a new product within 14 days.

The Rept. told me that it'd be very tedious to return and make another order for the iPhone 6 Plus since it's my 3rd iPhone 6 Plus.

So I canceled the return of the iPhone, and tried to solve the Touch ID problems by my own.

I googled for Touch ID problems, posted at Apple Support Community, talked to Tech Support Techs, reset the Touch ID, updated my iOS to 8.1.3, even restore my iPhone 6 Plus. All in vane.

So I contacted Apple Costumer Service(Asia-Taiwan), asking them to get me a new iPhone 6 Plus.

The Rept. said that the iPhone 6 Plus I got has passed the 14 days return policy.

But I made a request to return the iPhone 6 Plus within 14 days, and it was the rept that told me to cancel the return!!!

So I tried to talk to their supervisor.

I talked with the "Apple Customer Service(Asia-Taiwan) Dept. Manager Miss Yan(顏)".

She told me that I cannot return the iPhone 6 Plus.

I told her that I got an email form Apple saying that "The return of the iPhone 6 Plus had been canceled, BUT, YOU CAN MAKE A REQUEST ANYTIME BY REPLYING TO THE EMAIL"

The manager cannot explain about the email.

I asked again, and she just kept silence.

So I asked her what options I got. She said the only option is to send my iPhone 6 Plus, which I used for only a month, to the local dealers to fix the Touch ID problems.

I told her that I cannot accept the arrangement, since the Techs will need to open my new iPhone 6 Plus.

She kept silence again.

The Apple Customer Service(Asia-Taiwan) Dept. Manager Miss Yan(顏) denied their mistakes, refused any other options, and was with a bad attitude.

I spent 1,500 USD on the iPhone 6 Plus, and all I got is a bad Touch ID iPhone 6 Plus that NO APPLE EMPLOYEES CARE ABOUT?!!

I've been using Apple products since 1995. And I'm really mad about how the Apple Customer Service(Asia-Taiwan) dealing with things this time.

Hi EDLIU,

8.2 did not fix anything for me, but I didn't expect it to. TouchID does not work for me unless the environment is warm enough for there to be perfect circulation in my fingers. I look forward to using TouchID in the summertime. 🙂 Like you, I cannot return my phone b/c by the time I figured out what was wrong, it was way too late.

Previous poster is talking about the discovery I made when I was still trying to get it to work. I left my finger on the button while thinking, for at minute at least, and all of a sudden the finger was recognized. So in that case it just took a really long time to recognize. TouchID eventually failed again though.

Hi Ed,

I press on the home button to turn my phone on. I touch the home button to initiate the touch ID. It doesn't work (as usual). So, I touch the home button again leaving my finger on the button until the screen goes dark (turns self off). I press the home button again to turn the phone on and then touch the home button to initiate the touch ID and it amazingly works!! It worked for two days. I had to repeat the process when touch ID quit working again. It works, again. I don't understand it, but it solved my problem and recognizes my fingerprint every time on the first try. I turn on my phone sometimes just to see the Touch ID work! Hah! I do not have Reynauds Syndrome and my fingers are not cold. I have the newest software (version 8.2) just to let you know that it didn't solve the problem. I hope this is more clear than my initial post and I hope that it works for you, too.

Hi guys,

I have the exactly same problem like yours. My iphone5s has a touch id problem since updated to ios 8.1.3. It works sometimes but after a while it has no response. I have tried to restore the phone and update to ios8.2, this problem still exists. I have no idea whether this is a software problem or a hardware problem. The warranty period of my phone has just expired. 😟
