Update firmware for Samsung SSD

If you want to update the firmware using the Magician software on a Windows computer can you connect the Macbook to the Windows computer using Target Disk Mode or do you have to physically take the SSD out of the Macbook and connect it to the Windows computer with a SATA to USB adapter? I have a Samsung 850 Pro and I've never updated the firmware.

Physically remove the drive or install Windows on your computer using Boot Camp or VM software such as Parallels. Or contact Samsung for an OS X version of the software. TDM will not work with a PC. I doubt you can update the firmware through anything other than a direct connection in the computer. No USB or external enclosures/adaptors.
