Why is there a green matrix split screen on login?

Hey guys,

I've got a 2011 macbook pro with OX Yosemite 10.10.1

I've noticed I've got a strange green matrix kind of screen when I tried logging in one time. (see below)

I've since changed passwords and what not. I should also note, on our home PC (not a mac), we discovered some spyware. I've since installed Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus and I was going to take it to Apple.

Any other suggestions that might prevent or remove this problem?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

I would try using the uninstaller for your Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus and see if the problem resolves.

This is not due to a hack or a virus, if that's what your concern is.

Unfortunately, that looks like it may be a problem with your computer's graphics hardware. I'd make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. The techs there can run some in-depth diagnostics on the machine. You could also run Apple Hardware Test yourself, but that's not as good, and may not find a problem even if it exists. (If AHT finds a problem, you can be sure you have a hardware problem... but if it finds nothing, that just means it didn't find anything that it was capable of finding.)

Thanks, for that.

I sent the computer to Mac, and they ran diagnostics and tests and couldn't find or replicate the issue. So they uninstalled the software, and then reinstalled the latest Yosemite update.

I then transferred my computer setting through migration assistant on time machine to my computer.

When I shut the computer screen and it goes to sleep then open the lid up, a similar screen came up.

Interesting that it hasn't been resolved, but good to know it's nothing major.

If it a problem with your GPU I would be concerned and get the issue resolved while under warranty.

Take a picture of your the screen problem the next time it happens.

Look at your Console logs for errors concerning the GPU. Copy these errors as further evidence.
