How to resize window?

Hi I'm new to the Mac world, just purchased a MacBook Pro - 17inch. When I open Safari it comes up, but only takes up about 1/4 of the screen. When I hit the green + circle at the top left corner, it doesn't resize to the full screen.

Anyone know how I can get the window to be a full screen? FYI when I open my email, the window is full size.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You are expecting the green resize button to be equivalent to the Windows maximize, but in the Mac OS X finder, this button toggles between the window as originally presented, and resized to fit content. If you want to fill the screen, try window bottom right corner, and drag to size.

A couple of suggestions... The Mac OS X Help function will answer questions like this without posting here. Someone put it into Mac OS X be helpful, so put it to good use... 🙂

If you want to know more, try oreilly.com and get, "The Missing Manual: Switching to Mac".

Good luck.

User uploaded fileIf you click on the title bar of the window (the area to the right of the red, yellow and green buttons in the top left) you can then drag the window around. Obviouls you should drag it to top of you display. Then, if you look at the bottom left corner of the window you will see three little angles lines. If you click in that area you can drag the window to whatever size you like.

The thing with the green/zoom button is that this works differently in different applications. What Safari does, I believe, is to zoom based on the content of the page so it doesn't necessarily zoom to full screen. I actually wrote a short javascript and placed it in my Bookmarks Bar to set these for me when it's not to my liking.

That's only the UK version. In other countries it's the bottom-right corner.

If you click in that area you
can drag the window to whatever size you like.
