I actually have resorted to using an insane hybrid because none of the apps do what i want independently - i literally use apple maps running in the background and google maps in the foreground (waze has ****** me off for the last time). Google maps' one and only useful feature is it's lane-guidance, SHOWING me what lane to be in visually for the next exit, etc. but it's audio is THE WORST, that god **** google maps voice is also really annoying to my ears, very screeching but mostly it just is terribly *INCESSANT it will remind me like 5+ times very few seconds apart to "Continue on I5 North for 2 miles" "In 1 mile, continue on I5 north" "Continue on I5 North... In 25 miles, continue on I5 North..continue on I5 Nor" I ******* GET IT! STAY IN FIVE! ****! so I use Apple Maps' Siri voice (which you can pick male or female) they are ultra high fidelity with a lot of inflection and emoting with really good pronunciation of the street names; and my now required need: Apple Maps will lower the volume to mute, pausing Spoken Word audio playing (e.g. podcasts and news radio) to give you the next direction, then continue playing the audio time shifted back a few tenths of a second. This has become a deal breaker for me, I listen to several podcasts and news shows on my long commutes and I need the Best GPS guidance (google's lane images) with a sensible and non-annoying audio that doesn't bulldoze over my spoken word content i'm playing. Once I had to skip-back 10 seconds to re-hear parts of the prez debate SEVEN TIMES because Google Maps KEPT TELLING ME TO STAY ON I210 WEST! There is no way to report this problem to google. If Apple ever got lane-assist, I'd drop Google.
