can't open .avi files to view despite purchasing the avangate download recommended have I made a mistake here?
It depends on what created the AVIs. AVI is a container, not a format, and no single component can handle all AVI files.

now I'm even more confused. The help page I was directed to clearly indicated that .avi files could be opened if I purchased the avangate product feel as though I have been thoroughly conned out of £22. NOW i know why I rarely purchase software online it is such a minefield that we are drawn in to spending money and getting no benefit
